Exeter firms get on their bikes for charity

During National Adoption Week, Exeter firm WSP have challenged Parsons Brinckerhoff to the ultimate static cycle race to raise awareness and much needed funds to support families who have adopted in Exeter.

Members of both companies will take part in static bike race in the centre of Princesshay shopping centre on Wednesday 5 November.

The victorious office will be the one whose members cover the most miles during the day.

All money raised on the day will be donated to Families for Children Adoption Agency to be able to continue providing the vital support needed...

Gidleigh in the top ten British restaurants

Gidleigh Park has been named as one of the top ten restaurants in Britain by the Sunday Times.

Run by Devon celebrity chef and son of Exeter Michael Caines Gidleigh has won a raft of awards in recent years.

The newspaper said Gidleigh's food was "terrific" and the service "flawless".

However the restaurant slipped from the number one spot last year.

Gidleigh Park retains its two Michelin stars

Kirk Hills have an 'eggsciting' time

Last Friday, guests enjoyed a great event hosted by Kirk Hills, at the 11th Exeter Food Festival – and even the sun made an appearance!

The highlight of the event involved an omelette challenge, similar to that on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. Celebrity Chef and organiser of the festival, Michael Caines, demonstrated how it should be done and even ‘slowed down’ for his audience to set his time – at 26 seconds - still the fastest of the evening!

For the challenge itself, eight contestants took part: Sarah Chamberlain (Kirk Hills) – 38 seconds Damian Cook (Stratton Creber) – 39...

Internationally acclaimed chef, Michael Caines joined Eagle One Homes Director, Chris Fayers to officially open the Spinnakers showhome complex on Saturday (12 April).

Developed by Eagle One Homes, Spinnakers is the newly completed waterside development of 14, two and three bedroom apartments on Exmouth Quay.

Gold for the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink at the Devon Tourism Awards

The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink has won gold in the Tourism Event of the Year category of the 2013 Devon Tourism Awards.

After the awards ceremony, which was held in Torquay last week, Michael Caines MBE, tweeted: “Great result after 10 years, a great achievement for all involved!”

This year saw stiff competition with an increase to over 100 entries from the cream of the Devon tourism industry, with 44 businesses selected as finalists, each winning either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended awards.

Exeter chef Michael is the best in the UK

Michael Caines' restaurant at Gidleigh Park, Chagford, in Devon is the home of the UK’s best cooking.

That was the verdict of the Sunday Times which yesterday published its ‘Food List’ – the top 100 UK restaurants for food.

It is yet another feather in the cap for Michael, who studied at Exeter College.

Among those congratulating him yesterday were his former mentor Raymond Blanc.

He wrote on twitter: "Warmest congratulations to Michael Caines for being number 1. The top award for a brilliant chef, gentleman and friend."
