First restaurant by Michael Caines Academy student

An aspiring chef training at the Michael Caines Academy is the first student to open up his own restaurant in Exeter.

Second year student, Ryan Mell, will be opening up his dream restaurant “The Salty Pigeon” on 22nd January 2013, at 29 Magdalen Road, Exeter.

The student, who is a local from Exeter, sees this as a great business opportunity and is hoping to bring the community exciting food, job opportunities for the local people and his ‘salty’ pigeon.

Local talent wows the crowds at Princesshay

The day's delay in the Christmas lights switch on just seemed to add to the air of anticipation this evening, when the people of Exeter came out in force to kickstart Christmas and watch the evening's performers.

Exeter City Centre Christmas Lights switch-on postponed

Exeter City Council and Princesshay have announced that they are having to postpone the Exeter Christmas Lights Switch On event scheduled for this evening, due to the exceptional weather circumstances and the safety of spectators and participants.

The event has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday 23rd November from 4.30pm in Princesshay Square. Live entertainment will feature on stage from 4.30pm, with the lights being switched on collectively by the Lympstone Military Wives Choir and Michael Caines at 6.15pm. Exeter's celebrity chef picks up yet another award

Exeter's own celebrity chef Michael Caines is celebrating after scooping yet another award.

The Sunday Times top 100 Restaurants guide ranked Gidleigh Park number 2 - up one place on its 2011 position.

It is also the only restuarant to appear in the top three for three years running.

Gidliegh has the best wine list, was second best for service but was also the fourth most expensive.

The newspaper said: "Chef Michael Caines is the undoubted the star of this long-running show, for all his insistence on it being a team effort."

Michelin-starred chef teams up with Exeter College

Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines has launched a new academy at Exeter College. The Michael Caines Academy, in partnership with City & Guilds, will offer places to eight trainee chefs and eight front-of-house students, aged between 16 and 19. The two-year course begins in September and students will be able to work their way up to the City & Guilds Level 3 Diplomas. They will also take part in further courses beyond the initial two years, potentially leading to a Level 4 City & Guilds qualification. Participants of the 2012 Exeter Business Games have donated over £5,400 to Exeter Chiefs inspired charity, the Exeter Foundation.
