Gidleigh Park has been named as one of the top ten restaurants in Britain by the Sunday Times.

Run by Devon celebrity chef and son of Exeter Michael Caines Gidleigh has won a raft of awards in recent years.

The newspaper said Gidleigh's food was "terrific" and the service "flawless".

However the restaurant slipped from the number one spot last year.

Michael recently announced that he and his team are set to oversee the operations of Kentisbury Grange, near Barnstaple, a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian Manor House, a hotel with 16 bedrooms in landscaped grounds on the edge of the Exmoor National Park.

Michael said:  “I am hugely excited about this new partnership! Kentisbury Grange already offers a wonderful hospitality experience, with its stunning location in such a beautiful part of Devon. Building on the solid foundation already established, our involvement can help in all aspects of the hotel operations.

"I am particularly excited about helping to take the cuisine and restaurant service to a higher level, adding a touch of Michael Caines magic. Under our guidance, I am certain that the Coach House will soon be among Devon’s finest dining experiences.”

Kentisbury’s General Manager, Peter Farquhar, added: “Michael’s involvement is very exciting as it will enable us to move to a whole new level in all aspects of our hospitality offering.  We encourage everybody — our regular visitors as well as those who have not yet discovered us — to come and join us for the journey.”
