Charity desk cycle fundraiser starts for Exeter firm 

Devon digital advertising agency, Launch Online, is supporting the FORCE Cancer Charity Autumn Bike Ride initiative this November, but rather than being out on the road, its staff will be pedalling their little socks off from underneath their desks.

With the help of a fleet of mini pedal exercisers, which fit underneath the desk, the team will pedal as far as they can over the four weeks of lockdown while they work.

Alumni honour former Vice-Chancellor with permanent scholarship fund

A new scholarship scheme set-up in honour of former Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Steve Smith, targeting applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, will support six students to attend the University of Exeter each year.

Work starts on environmentally friendly development in Exeter

Work has begun on a housing development which will provide 60 affordable homes in Exeter.

The largest housing association in the South West, LiveWest, has joined forces with partnership house building specialist, Lovell, to kick-start a development project expected to run for 20 months.

There will be 35 homes for social rent and 25 for shared ownership, including a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties.

A Devon woman has started a petition as part of a bid to raise awareness of the plight of small independent businesses selling non-essential items.

Nicky Edmunds, along with her husband Paul, is the owner of two independent shops called Insideout, based in Exeter and Tavistock , selling gifts and homewares.

She is calling on the Government to recognise that large retailers classified as selling ‘essentials’ (and therefore allowed to stay open during lockdown) are capitalising on the sale of non-essential items in the lead up to Christmas.

Powderham Castle in Devon is set to receive a lifeline grant towards essential restoration of its iconic castellated towers from the Historic Houses Foundation.

The Historic Houses Foundation is a major beneficiary of the Heritage Stimulus Fund, recently announced by the UK Government and Historic England, which will provide invaluable support for restoration work on some of England’s most important and vulnerable historic buildings.

The Historic Houses Foundation will now be able to set in place a programme of urgent work that would not otherwise have been possible....

Bob Dylan’s brand-new art collection, Mondo Scripto , has launched this week, exclusively sold by leading retail art group, Castle Fine Art.

In this second release from the series, Dylan continues the selection of his most renowned lyrics, each originally handwritten by him in pen on paper and accompanied by an original pencil drawing.

Join expert discussion on saving the oceans

Scientists specialising in the marine environment will answer questions on ocean conservation during a free online event organised by the University of Exeter.

The health of our oceans is in decline, and the panel will discuss ways to protect and restore vital marine biodiversity.

Share a little warmth this winter

Fuel Poverty levels are high in Devon, and whilst projects like Healthy Homes for Wellbeing, run by Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) have been tackling this issue head on with their dedicated service, there is still a high level of demand for support .

The Winter Warmth campaign from ECOE, now in its second year, highlights the issues of fuel poverty and hard to heat homes faced by local residents each and every winter.
