Co Bikes open new electric bike station in St Thomas, Exeter

Co Bikes heads across river with their latest electric bike station

New electric bike station opens in St Thomas

Co Bikes continues the roll out of its electric bike stations with its newest location in Cowick Street, close to St Thomas train station. This marks the sustainable travel business’s 18th installation and the first west of the river in Exeter, thanks to the support of Devon County Council.

St Thomas is the fifth new Co Bikes station launched this year. Other sites launched in 2021 include Princesshay Shopping Centre, IKEA, Sidwell Street and Exeter College’s Future Skills Centre near Exeter Airport. Further new sites will be announced soon.

Mark Hodgson, Managing Director of Co Cars, comments: “We’re delighted to bring Co Bikes to St Thomas, we know there’s been a huge demand of our iconic bikes in this area, and we’re pleased to be able to offer zero carbon transport for St Thomas residents and visitors. We all know that Fore Street is a steep hill to tackle, but with our electric bikes it’ll be a breeze.”

Use of the Co Bike network increased by over 400 per cent across 2020. The bikes are the ideal zero carbon alternative to the car for fast cross city trips.

Using a Co Bikes is easy, new customers need to download the nextbike app and register for an account. To activate the account, customers make a £10 payment which is then used for their first Co Bikes trips, providing over 3 hours of cycling. Thereafter, it costs as little as £2 an hour to hire a Co Bike if customers buy a discounted BikeRider minutes bundle.

The Co Bikes network is powered by nextbike, who operate shared bike schemes in 200 cities around the world. Co Bikes is also part of Co Cars, the car club for people, communities and businesses across Exeter and the Southwest. Together, the cars and bikes form an economical, equitable and sustainable network of shared transport options to help reduce our dependence on private car ownership.

Co Bikes are available to hire or return to St Thomas train station from 22 April 2021.
