Higgins’ Incredible Strike Claims Guildhall Shopping Centre Goal of the Month

Akeel Higgins delivered a beautifully executed chip over the goalkeeper to earn himself a 68% public vote for the Guildhall Shopping Centre’s October Goal of the Month at the Devon Derby. It was the player’s first professional strike, which has quickly embedded the 20-year-old’s Exeter City loan as his early legacy within the hearts of his now rising fans. The award allows Higgins to carry a badge of honour that shows a notable turning point in what seemed like a silently ascending career.

Higgins joined the Exeter City club from West Bromwich for a season-long loan in September...

Exeter Racecourse is not so dissimilar to Cheltenham, the home of National Hunt horse racing, as you might think. Both tracks have hills to climb in the back straight for one thing.

Those racehorses who have run well over jumps around Exeter this season go to the Cheltenham Festival with varying chances of success at the major meeting. It is worth noting down who these hopefuls are.

Cheltenham is infinitely more competitive with the best Irish National Hunt horses joining their British counterparts. Two-time Exeter winner Native River is quoted in the Gold Cup betting...

Sports video games that will save a sports lover's quarantine

The COVID-19 restrictions have not been lifted yet in many parts of the world, preventing many sports enthusiasts from attending matches in person. As a result, many of them started watching games from the comfort of their homes. Nowadays, you can stream NFL live without any difficulties, and the same goes for a bunch of other sports.

However, not everyone might find watching games satisfying. Such people choose to play video games related to sports instead. But if you are one of them, you probably know how difficult it is to find a good sports game. It might make you want to...

Why horse racing needs a crowd

When you think of racing, you don’t just think of the jockeys spurring their horses on along the course. You also think of the crowds filling the stands, the roar of an audience passionately engaged with the spectacle before them. You think of racing as a social event: the frocks, the hats, the champagne and the picnics. You know instinctively that the crowds are what makes racing special, just as much as the horses, the riders and the race itself.

This is why the coronavirus pandemic has been so devastating for the horse-racing sector. Races being run effectively “behind closed...

When will golf courses reopen?

It is a question on the tip of the tongues of all golfers in the region: When will golf courses reopen? Golf has been off the agenda since lockdown begin once again on January 5, and there has been little given away as to when those “course closed” signs can be taken down.

While courses in Scotland have remained open and play permitted in twoballs only, golfers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been well and truly out of luck.

England Golf had considered lobbying parliament to allow its member courses to reopen safely, just as fishing was made possible as a...
