Exeter Sea Bees launch free youth baseball open day

Young people across Exeter are being invited to discover America's favourite pastime this weekend as the newly formed Exeter Sea Bees hold a free open day for aspiring baseball players.

Taking place on Saturday, July 18, the event marks the launch of the club's new youth programme, which is open to children entering Year 7 and above.

The team takes its name from the famous US Navy Seabees, who were based at Countess Wear during the Second World War and represented Europe in the 1945 European Baseball Championships, with matches played at Exeter City's St James Park.

The new youth section hopes to honour that legacy by inspiring a new generation of local players.

The open day will give youngsters the chance to learn the fundamentals of baseball in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Experienced coaches will introduce batting, catching, pitching and throwing, with no previous experience required.

The Exeter Sea Bees are part of Exeter Youth Baseball & Softball, a community club dedicated to making baseball accessible to young people of all abilities.

The club aims to develop confidence, teamwork and sporting skills while providing a fun, inclusive environment for players to enjoy the game and make new friends.

There will also be plenty of off-the-field entertainment, including a traditional American hot dog stand, making it a family-friendly day out.

The event is free to attend, but organisers are asking families to register in advance to help with planning.
