Attempted murder investigation launched after man stabbed in Tiverton

At around 11pm on Monday evening (17 July), police were informed by the ambulance service that a man in his thirties had received a stab wound to his side.

This was understood to have taken place sometime between 10.30pm and just before 11pm, probably close to the White Ball pub on Bridge Street.

The victim entered the pub from the Westexe direction requesting medical help. It was at this point staff called 999.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries the casualty was airlifted by the air ambulance to Derriford hospital in Plymouth.

M5 closed southbound

The emergency services were called to reports of a lorry which had collided with the central reservation on the M5 Soutbound at junction 27, Tiverton at 01.54am today (Tuesday 18th July).

Fire Control mobilised two appliances from Wellington and one from Taunton, together with the Rescue Tender from Taunton to attend this incident.

Upon arrival crews confirmed large good vehicle on its side under the bridge, all persons were free and clear of the vehicle, and crews were giving first aid at the driver at the scene.

Plans for new £5.7m junction near Tiverton approved

Devon County Council’s Cabinet has agreed plans to build a new £5.7 million junction off the A361 near Tiverton.

Approval of the Tiverton Eastern Urban Extension access junction by councillors means that work is now expected to start on phase one of the scheme in September. However, concern was raised at the meeting that the Local Transport Board has so far only agreed to provide £250,000 of funding, rather than £1.5 million that was expected.

The funding currently available will enable the development of the access junction to the A361 to be started, along with landscaping...

The team at Crediton Parish Church have to produce new themes and ideas each year, which will work as an exhibition with flowers. This year's Crediton Parish Church Flower Festival theme is no exception.

The sale of photographs featured in an exhibition of work by past pupils at Blundell’s School, who have gone on to have successful careers as photographers or in related fields, raised £630 for Cancer Research UK. First for Devon girls’ rugby team

A team from Tiverton achieved great success at their first attempt playing in the world’s largest school rugby tournament. But, while the Blundell’s boys’ teams are a regular feature at Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, it was the girls’ team that were runners-up - the first time that a girls’ team from the school has entered the competition. Many of the girls only took up the sport this term so the team have gone from beginners to prize winners in less than ten weeks.
