This year as part of their annual support of hospices throughout the country the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire Rt. W. Bro. Ian Kingsbury can be seen presenting a certificate denoting the £800 given on behalf of the Devonshire Freemasons and the Masonic Charitable Foundation to Denise Hook, Sarah Burns and Chris Webber at Hospiscare’s Pine Lodge Day Hospice in Tiverton.

Jail for farmer who ignored animal welfare advice

A Devon farmer found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal has been given a custodial prison sentence and banned from keeping cows and sheep.

William Douglas Dolley, of Holwell Farm, Collipriest, Tiverton was also found guilty of failing to dispose of animal carcasses in a timely manner and ordered to pay £2335.

The 2018 Hospiscare Breakfast Run took place in perfect autumn weather at Knightshayes Court, attracting more than 300 participants who are on track to raise over £10,000.

Government gives approval to ACE Schools for new special school

ACE Schools Trust has announced that they will be opening a free school in Tiverton after its application was approved by the Regional Schools Commissioner and the Department for Education.

The school, which will cater for pupils of moderate to high ability with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 11-16, is due to open in September 2019 and will be called Charlton Lodge and will be co-educational.

The Breakfast Run on 30 September will be a family affair for Sabrina Eastley, who is taking part with her children, Jack, age 14, Joby, 13, Harvey, 9, and Ruby, 8, and her Mum, Jackie.

They are raising funds in memory of husband and father James, who died at home in the care of Hospiscare in March this year.

Work complete on first phase of new junction east of Tiverton

The first phase of work on a new £5.7 million junction off the A361 near Tiverton has been completed.

The junction is the first element of new infrastructure links to developments planned for the east of Tiverton. The initial project has been finished on time and on budget, enabling both lanes of the North Devon Link Road to re-open.

There was a surprise in store for children at Heathcoat Primary School in Tiverton when an unusual competitor turned up and took part in their annual sports day.

Schoolchildren, teachers and parents alike were thrilled to see George the Mouse arrive, but their delight turned to surprise when the 6ft mouse lined up alongside the children to take part in the races.

Police investigate rape in Tiverton

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following allegations of a rape in Tiverton.

The incident took place in Collipriest Road near the junction with Little Silver at around 2.30am on Sunday 22 April.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5’ 6” tall with a stocky build.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson said: “It is believed that the offender followed the victim from Tiverton town centre.

“We believe that three people walked past the victim prior to the attack on the way out of Tiverton town centre and got into a car nearby....
