Unpaid carers in Tiverton are the first in Devon to have received free Wellbeing Gift Boxes as part of a county-wide joint initiative between Devon Carers at Westbank and Devon Partnership NHS Trust (DPT), supported through funding from Open Up, the Trust’s charity, launched during Carers’ Week (8th - 14th June 2026).

Former market manager completes first leg of UK charity tour

A Tiverton man has completed the first leg of his charity tour of the UK coast.

Jim Bray is taking on the mammoth road trip – entitled Exploring Britain’s Coast and Seaside Pubs – to raise money for Hospiscare.

The cash-strapped local charity cared for his sister, Emma Ansley, before she died of cancer aged 48.

Jim started from Tenby in South West Wales at the end of July and, travelling anti-clockwise, has reached the Exe estuary.

It’s the closest he will be to home and Hospiscare’s base in Exeter.

Tiverton-based poultry farmer, Stuart Cole, who supplies Oakham Gold chicken to M&S through the 2 Sisters Food Group, is one of seven farmers taking part in the new, seven-year Farm of the Future programme. The initiative will see M&S collaborate with suppliers, and farmers to deliver rapid decarbonisation of livestock production as part of its ongoing Plan A roadmap to be net zero by 2040.

Bickleigh Bridge on the A396 in Mid Devon will reopen to traffic on Bank Holiday Monday, a week earlier than planned.

An articulated lorry hit the parapet wall on the downstream side of the Bickleigh Bridge in the early hours of May 18.

When the driver realised he had taken the wrong line onto the bridge, he attempted to reverse - it was this reversing manoeuvre that caused the damage.

The bridge has been closed to traffic since the accident, although pedestrians and cyclists have been allowed access.

A Tiverton boarding school has purchased a new fleet of grounds equipment after securing a six-figure funding package from HSBC UK as part of a wider overhaul of the grounds within the school’s 120-acre site.

Blundell’s School switched banks to HSBC UK in October 2020 and has used additional funding from the bank to purchase a fleet of high-quality grounds equipment, including tractors, a four-meter-long mower and a turf conditioner. Head Groundsman Graham Cox, who joined Blundell’s last January, has seen improvements on many fronts thanks to the new equipment.
