Sculpture trail puts Tiverton on a pedestal

Devonshire Homes are, quite literally, giving support to a family sculpture trail highlighting the qualities of their home town of Tiverton.

Scale models of the historic Tivvy Bumper steam engine are being placed at 21 locations around the streets and parks of the town, each one standing on a concrete plinth provided by the house building company.

Woman arrested following assault in Tiverton

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on Lea Road, Tiverton.

The incident took place around 9.30pm on Friday 24th June opposite the entrance to the Tesco Express car park.

A confrontation took place between the occupants of a Red Volkswagon and a dark coloured Ford Mondeo on Lea Road. A 29-year-old man received minor injuries and a 42-year old woman was arrested and question in connection to this matter.

She has since been bailed until the 1st August pending further enquires.

Work to start on road safety improvements in Tiverton

Work on road safety improvements on Blundell’s Road in Tiverton will get underway on Monday 4 July.

The £1.1 million scheme will introduce a series of traffic-calming measures to reduce speeds and make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road.

The first phase of the scheme will establish a 20mph limit in the area around Blundell's Road, extending into Tidcombe Lane. Blundell's students put to the vote

Students at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, held their own referendum on Europe today (23 June).

During assembly in chapel, they heard two Year 12 politics and economics students put the case to Leave or Remain in the EU, under the watchful eyes of ‘Boris’, ‘Nigel’, ‘George’ and ‘David’.

After an informed hustings, students then voted at lunchtime via the choice of two buttons on a touchpad and the results were fed back to the IT department.

Remain campaign won, with 381 (58%) voting to stay in against 273 to leave.

Fraudsters jailed after targeting Tiverton victim

Fraudsters who preyed on vulnerable people across the UK and Channel Islands, by stealing money from their bank accounts, have been jailed.

Six offenders, aged between 21 and 45, have been jailed for a total of more than 20 years at Bristol Crown Court for their crime, which involved duping more than £1.3m from vulnerable and elderly victims, including many living in the south west of England. A seventh person has been given a nine month custodial sentence (suspended for two years).

Planned road closure postponed

A planned road closure which was due to take place on the A361 between Bolham roundabout and Station Road, South Molton, between 6am and 4pm from Monday 13 June to Wednesday 15 June for resurfacing work, has been postponed.

Due to poor weather conditions forecast for next week the work cannot take place. Instead the closure has been re-scheduled to take place from Tuesday 21 June to Thursday 23 June between 6am and 4pm.

Teenager assaulted in Tiverton

Police have launched an investigation after a teenager was assaulted on the Grand Western Canal tow path in Tiverton on Friday 20 May.

The incident took place on the canal tow path between Tidcombe Bridge and the main canal basin between 7.10pm and 7.20pm.

The victim, a 17-year-old local boy, received minor injuries after a demand was made for him to hand over his belongings.

No items were taken by the suspect who is described as being a white male, 5ft 10ins in height and of average build. He was wearing a dark hooded top.
