Christmas quiz night in Tiverton

QUIZ fans of all ages are being invited to put their knowledge to the test in a Christmas Quiz Night in Tiverton.

Teams of up to six people can enter the event at Tiverton Golf Club on Saturday 12 December (7pm for 7.30pm).

The event is open to non-members and will feature a new-look format with a big screen.

Entry is £6 per person, to include a buffet. Places are limited and the deadline for entries is Wednesday 9 December.

Devon shopkeeper held at knife-point

Police are appealing for witnesses following a knife-point robbery at a newsagent in Tiverton on Tuesday 27 October.

Officers were to Exe Valley News and Cards in Bampton Street around 7.40am after a masked man threatened the shopkeeper with a small knife and demanded cash from the till.

The male shopkeeper was unharmed but the suspect got away with a small amount of cash and made off towards Tiverton Market.

Battling weeds on the Grand Western Canal

Devon County Council has invested over £60,000 in a new boat to help rangers deal with the increasing problem of weed growth in the Grand Western Canal.

The canal and country park, which is managed by the County Council, is surrounded by farmland, which means the water is nutrient rich and excessive amounts of water plants and algae grow.

Fire crews tackle barn blaze

Fire crews were called to a barn fire in East Devon earlier today (Monday 5 October).

Fire Control mobilised appliances from Seaton, Colyton, Axminster and the water carrier from Exeter to reports of a fire within a barn at a farm near Musbury.

On arrival crews found one building measuring 120m x 20m containing straw and livestock, efforts were made to remove straw and farm vehicles.

Three hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, drag forks and two breathing apparatus were in use.

The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
