M5 closed southbound

The emergency services were called to reports of a lorry which had collided with the central reservation on the M5 Soutbound at junction 27, Tiverton at 01.54am today (Tuesday 18th July).

Fire Control mobilised two appliances from Wellington and one from Taunton, together with the Rescue Tender from Taunton to attend this incident.

Upon arrival crews confirmed large good vehicle on its side under the bridge, all persons were free and clear of the vehicle, and crews were giving first aid at the driver at the scene.  

Crews attempting to stem the flow of diesel from the tank, and crews liaising with Highways and Police at the scene.  Crews will remain at the scene for a period awaiting recovery of the vehicle. 

The M5 has now reopened.
