I was delighted to be asked to write a review of the new Spring Menu for the Bistro du Vin at the Hotel du Vin in Exeter.

I had only visited the hotel on one occasion for drinks and was pleasantly surprised by the light and airy bistro setting with views over the gardens.

The sun put in an appearance for our visit and as we sat by the large windows we were bathed in sunshine which added to the whole experience.

We were warmly welcomed at the hotel and were informed that in the next 12 months the whole hotel would be undergoing a major refurbishment in line with all...

The award-winning Thurlestone Hotel in South Devon has announced the opening of its new restaurant ‘The Trevilder’, following a million pound refurbishment.

The development has seen the existing restaurant undergo a complete transformation with a new identity and new menus ready for the summer season, featuring produce sourced almost exclusively from within the county. Set across two levels and with floor-to-ceiling windows that make the most of the dreamy coastal views, the restaurant has been completely redesigned by London-based Fabled Studio, whose work can be seen in many of...

POLPO - you have four yeses!

It is the wont of the restaurant reviewer to over indulge.

Starter, main, dessert, wine and coffee for two is the minimum expectation.

But not everyone has the time, or budget, for a three-course meal.

And so it was when this reviewer booked a table at Exeter’s newest restaurant, the Venetian-inspired Polpo.

We were looking for good food, nothing too heavy, served promptly for around £12 a head.

To really put our hosts to the test, I ordered one of the most expensive fish dishes (fritto misto) at £9.20.

My dining partner opted for the whipped...

Unique taste of France heading to Devon village

A UNIQUE taste of France is heading to Devon, via a beautiful old French camper van, which has been converted to a restaurant…seating just four people.

Award-winning restaurant La Petite Bouchée, will move from its London base to the village of Witheridge at the end of the month.

The move follows a series of break-ins and vandalism which have left the owners unable to operate. The most recent attack caused more than £5,000 worth of damage.

The unusual restaurant, which has won the Time Out award for Best Restaurant in Sydenham, serves traditional French cuisine in...
