Circa 1924, the new kids on the block in Exeter’s culinary scene, threw a party to celebrate the opening of its seafood, steak house and cool moonshiner cocktail bar.
Owners James Waddington and Rob Weeks welcomed the great and the good of Exeter to the venue, treating everyone to their tasty cocktails and Circa style canapés, as well as celebratory fizz and oysters.
The new independent is all about great quality food, using Devon’s fantastic local produce, with a bit of 1920’s glamour thrown in for good measure. Located just off Exeter High Street, where Harry’s grill used...
Las Iguanas has rebuked claims that their staff are made to ‘pay to work’.
In a posting on The Exeter Daily last night, 38 Degrees said people in Exeter are taking action to stop the restaurant forcing staff to pay back 3% of their total sales at the end of each shift.
A spokesman for Las Iguanas said: “Claims that we make staff ‘pay to work’ are ridiculous, as that would be illegal and bears no resemblance to our actual policy.
“We are mystified about where this has come from. At no time has 38 Degrees contacted us to enable us to explain our approach. Aside from...
We are very fortunate to live just outside Exeter, a city which now boasts a vast array of assorted eateries, bars and restaurants and we endeavour to dine out with our two boys at least once a month and have done this since the boys were small as I did with my parents introducing them to new flavours and learning to behave impeccably when dining out amongst the ‘grown-ups’. We have a favourite selection of restaurants we tend to frequent and were excited about the prospect of trying somewhere new.
The boys were particularly keen when I said that they would have to review their...

Circa 1924, a new restaurant located just off Exeter High Street at 6 Northernhay Place, is set to take the city’s culinary scene by storm with its 1920s-inspired steak and seafood house and ‘moonshiner’ speakeasy cocktail bar.
Formerly Harry’s Grill Bar, Circa 1924 is owned by two local lads, Rob Weeks and James Waddington, who searched for months for premises that would allow them to combine their love of food and drink in a building with a vintage twist.
James explains: “After both spending time living away from the area, we couldn't help but notice that our...

Bella Italia, the family-friendly Italian restaurant, has placed the future of its kids menu in the hands of some of the country’s toughest customers – children aged from three to 11.
With an established reputation for family-friendly service (that’s official as Mumsnet has awarded Bella for the development of its family-focused dining with an Innovation Award!), Bella decided to go a step further and allow boys and girls to rip up the rulebook and rebuild the way in which its restaurants cater for their younger customers.
Throughout the project, which spanned over a year,...
