26 cities in the UK have more vacancies than jobseekers new research from job search site Adzuna.co.uk reveals.

Top cities labelled the ‘best places to find work’ include Oxford, Winchester, Manchester and Exeter, with Cambridge coming out on top with six vacancies per jobseeker.

Oxford is in second place with five vacancies per jobseeker followed by Manchester, advertising four jobs per person.

Across all cities job postings in healthcare and IT dominate making up 69,135 and 43,475 advertised jobs respectively. The NHS remain one of the largest recruiters,...

Flybe collapse – Exeter City Council sets up job fair in city

A jobs fair is being held in Exeter to support those affected by the collapse of city-based airline Flybe.

The event is being held on Tuesday (10 March) at Exeter Corn Exchange and has been organised by Exeter City Council following Flybe going into administration.

Everyone is welcome to attend – not just former employees of Flybe - and can turn up on the day. The Council is also looking for more employers to come along to the event.

A number of big companies and recruitment agencies have already booked a place at the jobs fair, including BT, the NHS and Screwfix....

More than 100 jobseekers attended the Recruit Princesshay jobs fair, helping to match local people to 50 retail and restaurant vacancies on offer, both at Exeter’s Princesshay and elsewhere in the city.

Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw met the Recruit Princesshay team last Friday (2 December), to hear about the successes of the employment initiative launched back in March 2016.

Since it started in the spring Recruit Princesshay has:

  • Seen 193 local people hae register on the scheme
  • Held 6 employability workshops, attended by over 40 people in total
  • Successfully placed 18 local people into long term employment
  • Worked with 50 businesses, including, Reiss, Hotel Chocolat and Debenhams, to help them source appropriate candidates to their workforces
