Hospiscare signs up to The Charity Shop Gift Card

Hospiscare, which provides specialist care to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, is the latest charity nationwide to sign up to the first multi-retailer gift card that can be used exclusively in charity shops.

Teaming up to support Twilight with a Twist

A group of around 30 team members from Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary will be taking part in the Hospiscare ‘Twilight with a Twist’ on Saturday July 10.

It’s the 15th anniversary of the charity’s Twilight Walk, and this year people have been invited to take part either by joining the walk in Exmouth or planning a route locally.

Freemasons donate £1,660 to Hospiscare’s Searl House in Exeter     

This year as part of their annual support for hospices throughout the country Ian Kingsbury (at a Socially distanced meeting) presented a certificate denoting the £1660 given on behalf of the Devonshire Freemasons and the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) to Carey Mackenzie, Hospiscare’s Grants and Appeals Officers.

Happy Christmas to Hospiscare as Ottery fundraiser smashes target

The fundraising target for Rusty Pig’s ‘Ho Ho Hospiscare’ draw was totally smashed after the local community in Ottery St Mary and surrounding villages showed support for the event.

The initial aim was to raise £500 but by the night of the draw the total had reached £2300. And there was an extra surprise to come with and additional donation of an extra £250 from PASC, an organisation providing support for self-catering businesses, bringing the final total to an amazing £2,550 - equating to a whopping 400 percent increase!

Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary has teamed up with Hospiscare for a festive draw with an amazing top prize – which could turn into two!

The restaurant is supporting the charity after Covid-19 drastically affected fundraising events since March. Robin Rea of Rusty Pig, whose family have previously received support from Hospiscare, said:

Over the summer months visitors were drawn to Darts Farm’s vibrant yellow fields of pick-your-own sunflowers. These positive and cheerful flowers have raised a total of £6,542 for Darts Farm’s chosen local charity, Hospiscare, with a running total of £38,554.75 raised over the past 12 years.

A seven-strong team of hospice staff will be taking part in a brand new virtual event in October.

‘Team Hospiscare’, who all work for the local charity, will be completing a Marathon in a Month as part of the charity’s new virtual challenge event.

Since the national lockdown in March, Hospiscare’s fundraising efforts have been drastically impacted due to the closure of its charity shops and cancellation of events. The charity faces a loss of over £1 million this financial year.
