Millbrook retirement village, in Exeter, has handed over a cheque for £6,677 to Hospiscare, after residents hosted a series of fundraisers throughout 2021.

Residents raised £3,338.97 in total by hosting a charity walk, quiz, dog show, coffee morning, craft show, a singing concert, Christmas raffle, and a patio clean. One resident, Jenny Skinner, aged 68, even took part in a skydive to raise vital funds for the Devon based charity.

The residents’ donations were matched by Inspired Villages, the later living operator behind Millbrook, doubling the total to £6,677.94

Hospiscare supports people across the heart of Devon living with life limiting illnesses such as cancer and heart failure. The charity offers a wide range of help from medical care to wellbeing groups, as well as support for friends, family and carers.

Rachel Tottle, Village Manager at Millbrook, comments: “Hospiscare is a charity close to our hearts here at Millbrook and the residents have been incredibly committed in their fundraising efforts. We’ve had great fun putting on the various events and are incredibly pleased with the money raised that will help support a charity that is vital to the local area.”

The Millbrook Residents’ Association added: ‘Each year Millbrook residents suggest charities for whom we would like to raise funds. Then ideas are then put to the vote and the winner becomes the chosen charity for the year. We are delighted that last year's choice raised such an exceptional amount for Hospiscare.”

Millbrook offers over 65s the chance to enjoy an active and sociable retirement in a welcoming, secure community, with the Devon coast and countryside on their doorstep. The village is home to a host of state-of-the-art facilities, including a relaxation pool, gym, cinema, and restaurant.
