Devon charity, Hospiscare, has secured a £1,000 donation from local developers after an application from two of its charity runners.
Persimmon Homes South West received an application for its Community Champions scheme from Rachel Payne and Kate Smith, both of whom competed in races including the London Marathon 2023, to raise money for the hospice.
Representatives of the five-star builder presented the cheque to them at their Exeter site, Searle House, named after their founder, alongside local councillor, Marina Asvachin.
The University of Exeter and Hospiscare have teamed up once again to recycle Christmas trees and support terminally ill people and their families.
Hospiscare’s vans collected trees from households across Exeter, Exmouth, Honiton, Tiverton, Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary on 13th and 14thJanuary, in exchange for a £10 donation.
Trees were then taken to the University’s Streatham Campus to be chipped by the Grounds Team and the chippings have been used as mulch for the university’s shrub beds.

Devon based charity Hospiscare is looking to raise £1 million in an emergency appeal. The charity is now nearing its goal with support from the local community and organisations such as Redrow South West.
Hospiscare supports 2,500 people with life-limiting illnesses each year and their reach covers Exeter, Mid and East Devon. This year will be their 40th anniversary, however, as a charity they need to raise around £8 million a year to continue to provide care.
The Covid pandemic had a catastrophic effect on the charity’s resources. The hospice’s income is not recovering...
Over 1,000 supporters stepped up for their local hospice charity by taking part in its iconic fundraising event last month.
Men’s Walk returned on 12 March to raise sponsorship for Hospiscare ’s vital end-of-life care for local people living with a terminal illness.
The hospice cares for over 2,500 patients and their families every year across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. With just 18% of the charity’s income funded by the NHS, events like Men’s Walk are crucial to the survival of Hospiscare.

It’s the third year in a row that the Ottery St Mary garden centre has raised funds for Hospiscare, in what has turned out to be an epic success with the 2021 fundraising total topping £14,700!
This is particularly impressive in yet another year where the pandemic impacted so many charities with postponed or cancelled events.
During the year, efforts included a team from Otter participating in the Hospiscare walk, this year renamed ‘Twilight with a Twist’. The routes were planned by Lauren Pearcy and Sally Bright and 33 walkers completed either 6 or 13 miles. This event...
Stagecoach drivers and RMT union representatives across Exeter recently organised a collection, seeing a fantastic £1100 donated to local charity Hospiscare, topped up by their Stagecoach MD.
RMT union reps Matt Hackett, Jamie Nickles and Ian Hodge hit upon the idea initially for a very different reason.
Several weeks ago, saw the company and union in pay talks, with local strike action planned for Monday 18th October. As the union were preparing for the proposed strikes, they realised that some drivers may be out of pocket if they took part in the action, so they...
