'Nourishing' Hospiscare with charity round up

An ongoing fundraising initiative by Nourish Zero Waste has accumulated £1,600 for Hospiscare after customers were encouraged to donate just a few pence in each transaction.

The money will fund 16 visits to a patient in their own home by one of the charity’s clinical nurse specialists enabling patients to stay at home with their loved ones.

Zero waste provisions business Nourish which has shops in Topsham and Magdalen Road has been running a voluntary charity ‘round up’ since opening in March 2018.

Sell-out curry night raises £3K for Hospiscare

Two East Devon businesses that joined forces to put on a fundraising curry night raised £3,000 for local charity, Hospiscare.

The event was held in October at Higher Wiscombe Holiday Cottages, when Chef Robin Rea from Ottery’s Rusty Pig and his team created an Indian banquet. The meal featured sustainably sourced goat and chicken curry, with edible table decorations proving a real hit with diners.

University and Hospiscare to recycle Christmas trees

The University of Exeter and Hospiscare will team up to recycle Christmas trees and support terminally ill people and their families.

Hospiscare’s vans will collect trees from Exeter, Exminster and Cranbrook between 11-17 January, in exchange for a £10 donation.

Trees will then be taken to the University’s Streatham Campus to be chipped by the grounds team, with help from Bicton College agriculture students.

Chippings will be given to the Avanti Hall School (previously the Steiner Academy) or used to improve local footpaths.

Darts Farm continues to raise funds for local charities

During the summer months Darts Farm is renowned for its vibrant yellow fields of pick-your-own sunflowers and it’s superb ‘Maize Maze’. The beautiful flowers have raised a total of £5,034 this year for Darts Farm chosen charity, Hospiscare and the ‘Maize Maze’; a maze that’s constructed entirely out of the maize crop grown in the Darts Farm field, has raised a total of £3,061 for local charity ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund).

Earlier this year Ian Kingsbury visited Hospiscare in Exeter with a cheque for £1388 as part of the freemasons annual giving to hospices throughout England & Wales, this as it turned out was only the beginning.

In 2018 the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) formed a partnership with Hospice UK, to help target support within the palliative care sector with the aim of helping expand vital support for bereaved families and individuals.

Responding to the needs of the local communities in and around Seaton and Axminster, Hospiscare@Home provides 24/7 hands-on nursing support at home for people with a life-limiting illness in the final months or weeks of life. The service is provided by local charity Hospiscare and is generously supported by Seaton & District Hospital League of Friends and The League of Friends of Axminster Hospital.

In 2016, Di & Sammi Rosser took part in the Twilight Walk simply because it sounded like a fun event and they felt that Hospiscare was a charity worth supporting. They could never have imagined two years later they would be walking in memory, having placed a photo of their much loved husband and dad Jeff on their memory star and displaying it, with so many others, within the special memory tent at The Maer, Exmouth.

This year will once again see Hospiscare teaming up with local residents who are gladly opening their gardens in support of what is now a favourite staple in the charity’s calendar. This year, Hospiscare Open Gardens is entering its fifteenth year and to date has raised the awe inspiring amount of £227,000. Saturday 6 July will be a BIG day in Exmouth for local charity Hospiscare . Exmouth and Lympstone Hospiscare will be holding their Family Fun Day at Manor Gardens from 10am – 4pm with live entertainment and lots of fun activities. An exciting new event comes to Devon for the first time later this year when Hospiscare hosts Wild Tri, and its big brother, Wild Tri Extreme.

This will be a wild take on a triathlon, and promises to be an exhilarating experience that will challenge hard-core extreme event enthusiasts, as well as novices and those who like their events just a tad less challenging.
