Devon based charity Hospiscare is looking to raise £1 million in an emergency appeal. The charity is now nearing its goal with support from the local community and organisations such as Redrow South West.

Hospiscare supports 2,500 people with life-limiting illnesses each year and their reach covers Exeter, Mid and East Devon. This year will be their 40th anniversary, however, as a charity they need to raise around £8 million a year to continue to provide care.

The Covid pandemic had a catastrophic effect on the charity’s resources. The hospice’s income is not recovering fast enough to keep pace with costs and it is facing a large deficit.

Ellie Williams, Corporate Officer at Hospiscare, started working for the charity after personally experiencing the impact that the hospice has on individuals and loved ones in the area. She said:

“In the last year, Hospiscare has seen a 15% rise in patients and we are caring for more people than ever before. It costs £22,794 every day just to keep our vital services going.

“As a charity we receive just 18 per cent of our funding from the NHS. We therefore need the support of our community to continue delivering our vital end-of-life care and can’t thank Redrow South West enough for their support. £2000 goes a long way to take care of the patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.”

Kevin Bradford area sales manager in Devon said:

“At Redrow South West we want to contribute to a safe and healthy community - not just at our development sites but also surrounding areas.

“It is an honour to support Hospiscare so that they can continue the great work they do in the region. We encourage everyone to get involved so that they can reach their goal. The fundraiser is a wonderful idea and we are more than happy to offer our support.”

Located in Devon, Redrow’s St Michael's Meadow is an exciting development of premium 3 and 4-bedroom homes in the leafy and desirable suburb of Alphington.

Alphington has much to offer with its blend of old and new and offers a perfect mix of traditional Devon country life, seaside towns and all the advantages of the city within easy reach. Redrow’s Heritage Collection mirrors this balance with its blend of traditional architecture and modern interior design.
