This year has seen the Freemasons celebrate their tercentenary and as part of their annual support of hospices throughout the country the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire W. Bro. Chris Yard can be seen here presenting a certificate denoting the £1,000 given on behalf of the Freemasons of Devonshire and the Masonic Charitable Foundation to Maggie Draper, Head of Supportive Care at Hospiscare’s Kings House Day Hospice in Honiton.

Bob Rutter, aged 76, and his wife Sue have lived in Seaton for the past 18 years. After a 40 year career as a pub landlord, Bob was enjoying an active and sociable retirement playing bowls and golf when he was diagnosed with a rare cancer, lymphoma in the brain.

Wildlife improvements planned at Honiton Bottom Local Nature Reserve

East Devon District Council Countryside team is aiming to improve bio-diversity in Honiton.

The play equipment currently in the Honiton Bottom Local Nature Reserve is coming to the end of its serviceable life and is due to be removed over the next few months. A very special Christmas party will take place at the Guildhall, Exeter, on Monday December 11 from 11am until 12noon. Drainage repairs planned on Honiton to Dunkeswell road

Essential drainage repairs will be carried out on the road from Honiton to Dunkeswell, near Combe Raleigh, starting on Monday 4 December.

A culvert on the route has collapsed and needs replacement. The road will be closed for a maximum of five days while work is carried out. A signed diversion will be in place via the A30, Monkton, Upottery and Smeatharpe and vice versa. Postcard album reveals tragic story

Chilcotts Auctioneers is selling a 1930s postcard album that relates pictorially the story of ill-fated airship production in the UK, including the tragic result of a maiden flight.

The album was discovered in East Devon, when the vendor was clearing out his late father’s home.

It opens with images of the R100, an airship built in the 1920s in Cardington, Bedfordshire. Different to its German Zeppelin counterparts, the R100 was oval in shape, streamlined and aerodynamic.

Hospiscare’s Light Up a Life event takes place annually in the run up to Christmas, a particularly poignant time of year for many bereaved people. The services offer a time and space apart to remember and honour loved ones who are no longer with us. With a blend of readings, poetry, music and the opportunity to join voices in singing carols, these occasions bring at least as much joy as sadness and are never less than uplifting.

The wait is almost over. The hour is very nearly at hand.

Sunday (29 October) will see this year’s epic 7.5-mile Jolly Good Jaunt walk from the Deer Park Hotel through the breath-taking beauty of the autumnal East Devon countryside. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

This year’s Jolly Good Jaunt is fast approaching on Sunday 29th October. The sponsored walk is guaranteed to be lots of fun and for a very good cause. Much of the money raised will go towards funding the services at Honiton`s Kings House day centre.

The role provided by Day Care is invaluable. Operating on a Tuesday and Thursday, the centre enables patients to take part in a range of activities including crafting and chair-based exercises, a freshly cooked lunch (with veg grown from the garden) and the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different guest speakers and entertainment....
