Matthew's 'pet project' on course for success

A former lawyer who hopes to turn his passion for pets into a business is on course to hit a crowdfunding target.

Matthew Dunne aims to help locally-owned vets practices compete on a level playing field with the powerful corporate owned operations.

He is attempting to raise £40,000 on Crowdcube.

And within seven days of the pitch going live to Crowdcube’s hundreds of thousands of investors, Local Vets is already 77 per cent funded.

Matthew said he had been overwhelmed by the support he’d received from investors.

Exeter Golf Club donates £8,000 to RD&E cardiac fund

Patients at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital can now recline in comfort when having a scan of their heart thanks to a £4,000 donation from the Exeter Golf and Country Club.

The donation to the RD&E’s Cardiac Fund has been used to purchase a new ‘echo couch’ for patients to lie on when having an echocardiogram, a scan using sound waves to create images of the heart and surrounding blood vessels. The new couch replaces an older and worn-out version in one of the Cardiac Unit’s three echo suites on Taw Ward, and will significantly increase patients’ comfort.

House builder exceeds target for charity and pledges more support

Tiverton Housebuilder Devonshire Homes handed over a cheque to Devon charity Hospiscare this week marking a year of fundraising that saw the company exceed its target amount by £2,316.00.

Last April, the company pledged to raise £10,000 over the year. To achieve this figure various fundraising and sponsorship events were planned and held. Graduate theatre company reaches halfway mark on Crowdfunder campaign

The Argosy Arts Company have successfully raised over £1000 in 5 days for their debut theatre production, ‘The House of Edgar. The show is an original gothic horror musical based on the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. The show will preview in Exeter before traveling to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

Sale of RWC2015 dressing items raises £1,765 for charity

Charities in Exeter have received a cash windfall thanks to the sale of dressing items from the Rugby World Cup 2015.

A total of £1,765 was raised through the sale of Rugby World Cup 2015 City Dressing items such as banners and bunting used to promote the Tournament in Exeter. Pin badges, lanyards, mini balls and other accessories were also auctioned to raise money, all donated by England 2015, the Tournament organiser.

Charity invites businesses to compete in bake off

Disability charity, St Loye’s Foundation, will take their fundraising efforts to the next level with a team building corporate bake off event in April 2016.

Based in Exeter, the charity is inviting local businesses to enter teams of six to take part in Bake it Big; hosted by former Great British Bake Off contestant Glenn Cosby, the event will encourage team work and competitive spirit.

The charity team at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary has announced this year’s charity partnership with the Baton.

The Baton is run by Alan Rowe, well known in the area for his charity work. Alan founded the organisation to raise awareness of life in the British Armed Forces and ensure ex forces personnel are given the right support when they return to civilian life.
