Conservationists in Torquay have turned marine waste into thought-provoking art.

A new installation at Living Coasts, Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium, combines education, plastic waste and inspirational creativity. On course to being the biggest and best Exeter Art Show yet

Preparations for one of the South West’s largest exhibitions, the Rathbones Exeter Art Show hosted at the Maynard School, are gaining pace with well over 100 nationally and locally acclaimed artists signed up already.

Commercial interest in the Show, which will take place over the weekend of 21-22 April 2018, has been enormous this year with several companies coming on board to offer support. So far, these include Rathbones Investment Management, Knight Frank, Darts Farm, Foot Anstey and The Exeter.

Making art for charity

Exeter Junior School pupils are proud to contribute to Young Devon Art and raise money for charity in the process.

Pupils at the independent co-education school created pictures based on the theme 'What makes me happy' for the Young Devon Art Exhibition in aid of Cancer Research as part of the school's Art Club. They each donated £2 for the cancer charity alongside their artwork.

Nine members of Exeter Junior School's Art Club are celebrating the selection of their artwork to go on show at The Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey in Torquay throughout the weekend 3 - 4 March.

Launched in 2010, Jerwood Makers Open is a biennial opportunity focusing on UK makers who propose to make ambitious, radical work in their first years of practice.

Five artists, Sam Bakewell, Juli Bolaños-Durman, Jessica Harrison, Marcin Rusak and Laura Youngson Coll, were selected from 271 submissions.

Each received grants to develop and tour new work in a diverse range of materials. Exhibits incorporate chainsaw-carved wood, parian porcelain, repurposed glass, organic waste, vellum and fish skin.

Dan Dickens, 60 from Exeter, has found a unique way of volunteering for local charity Hospiscare in one of their Exeter shops. Dan, a local artist, has bought his talents into a niche role at the South Street Shop (Exeter), which specialises in vintage and antique books, music, art and collectables.

An Exmouth-based painter who likes to have fun is bringing something new to Devon

in March 2018. Artist Anna FitzGerald is launching ‘WooHoo’, an exhibition focussed on art and performance which she describes as a 'week-long giggle'.
