Local graffiti artists have given the subway at Exe Bridges in Exeter a colourful facelift.
The project, organised by Devon County Council and Miss*C’s Graffiti Academy, has over recent weekends seen local graffiti artists donating their time for free to revitalise the subways. A collaborative exhibition showcasing the art of hand embroidery, old and new. Degree students from The Royal School of Needlework have produced contemporary, hand-embroidered work inspired by treasured textiles from world renowned archives at Hampton Court Palace.
The exhibition features surface designs such as appliquéd garments, wearable sculpture, 3-D stitched drapes and hangings alongside historic purses, collars and lacework - offering a rare opportunity to see the past revived in a contemporary fashion. Main Gallery. Free entry, open daily 10am-5.30pm
The exhibition explores Winnie’s vision of the capitalist world, viewing desirable commodities from different angles and often with a focus on textile products, in order to resist what she describes as her “shopaholic behaviour and temptation”. Winnie, who graduated from UAL/Chelsea College of Arts with an MA in Fine Art, paints her obsessions into her artworks.
The exhibition is curated by Julian McSweeney and Huanglu Shi for Artsalon+, and is being held in the atmospheric 1st floor room of The Oddfellows - Exeter, at 60 New North Road, EX4 4EP.

RAMM has commissioned a new artwork from the internationally-acclaimed glass sculptor, Steffen Dam, for its major summer exhibition Sea life: Glimpses of the Wonderful.

A painting depicting everyday life in Exeter’s Southernhay district has been auctioned to raise funds for a new cultural tribute after the Cathedral Yard fire.
Property Search Group wanted to bring together the city’s law firms to raise money by commissioning and auctioning the painting, created by Devon artist and illustrator Sara Nunan.

Built up in 1769, burnt out in 2016, the tragedy of the fire at Exeter’s Royal Clarence Hotel has left a scar that’s both physical and psychological in our city.
Yet after destruction comes renewal, a theme that local sculptor Martin Staniforth (known as ‘morth’) is exploring in his creative work.
