There aren’t many places that you can take the kids for free in the school holidays, but Newton Abbot races in Devon is a great exception with children under 16 admitted free of charge throughout the year. And there’s never been a better time to visit than next weekend (Sunday 21July) when the course will be hosting a new interactive ‘Kids love the Races’ roadshow designed to entertain and engage children in the sport.

We know that office plants can improve air quality , but can it boost well-being and productivity too? A recent study suggests the answer is ‘Yes’.

Office plants can assist in boosting staff well-being by up to 47% according to workplace research carried out at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Visitors to the Chelsea Flower Show were challenged to take part in the study which measured their creativity, happiness and productivity as they experienced a range of different workspace designs.

Hubble spots azure blue planet

Astronomers from the University of Exeter using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope along with an international team of researchers have, for the first time, determined the true colour of a planet orbiting another star.

If seen up close this planet, known as HD 189733b, would be a deep cobalt blue, reminiscent of Earth’s colour as seen from space.

But that's where the similarities end. This deep blue dot is a huge gas giant orbiting very close to its host star. The planet's atmosphere is scorching with a temperature of over 1000 degrees Celsius, and it rains glass, sideways...

Alphington residents left in the dark after power cut

Approximately 2,000 properties in the Alphington (EX2) area of Exeter were thrown into darkness this evening after being affected by a power cut due to an unknown fault. After being plunged in and out of darkness, the power now appears to have returned.

Talented Sam Lomas, aged 18 from Macclesfield, was joined by four fellow finalists in a culinary battle at River Cottage HQ Park Farm.

Courgettes, Onions and Garlic with Fresh Basil

Bridget's Advice: Keep food simple and nutritious but most of all use Organic Ingredients:

Slice and fry onions in a mixture of extra virgin oil and butter, add garlic (I use a whole green garlic) chop various coloured courgettes and add to the onions/garlic, near the end of cooking time add some freshly chopped basil, season and serve.

Blood pressure research wins National Prize

Research carried out at the University of Exeter Medical School on the monitoring of blood pressure has received the Royal College of General Practitioners Research Paper of the Year Award in the stroke category.

The research has contributed to national and international guidelines.
