The Reading Room Devon is running a series of one- and two-day courses that look into Devon's literary links. These reading retreats can also involve staying overnight at Greenbank, a farmhouse B&B overlooking Chagford on Dartmoor.
Set up by two English literature lecturers the reading holiday idea came about following a busy day in the classroom.

Free places on a unique four-week personal development course, including two 'residentials', are being offered by Devon charity Community Action South West.
Local 16 and 17 year olds in Exeter, East Devon and Torbay could sign-up for a life-enriching summer adventure with volunteering at its centre, giving valuable personal development skills under the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.

Shortly before midday on Tuesday 9 July, an elderly woman pedestrian who was standing on a pavement was struck by a car that was being driven by an elderly man. The incident took place on Gatehouse Close in Dawlish. Police report that the car, a silver Skoda Fabia, was manoeuvring in the street and for an unknown reason left the road, striking the woman pedestrian before careering through a nearby garden, coming to rest against a nearby property. Police are currently investigating an unexplained death in Sidmouth. Officers were called at around 1.30pm today (9 July) after reports that a member of the public had found the body of a woman on the beach, approximately half a mile from Jacobs Ladder. Along with police, the Sidmouth lifeboat, Coastguard and paramedics were called to the area. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Exeter College is celebrating being top of the world again, with two of its International Baccalaureate students achieving top spots of an outstanding 44 points out of a possible 45 in the international qualification results.
The two were amongst the highly successful 37 students completing their two-year diploma this year who achieved average points of 34.2 out of a possible 45.
