Exeter Chiefs have been getting stuck into their pre-season programme for a couple of weeks now, but today they headed to the seaside for a different sort of work-out with the club’s conditioning staff.

Whereas much of the initial work has been centered around the club’s Sandy Park, this time the Chiefs playing squad popped along to nearby Exmouth Beach for a series of testing drills.

From sand dune shuttles to grappling, heavyweight lifting to ball work, it seems no pebble was left unturned as Rob Baxter’s team geared themselves up for the new 2013/14 season.

The Future of Exeter's Walk-In Centres

They wanted to know about how to make sure that we have the right level of service, in the right place, at the right time. And probably at the right price (but we’ll come to that later).

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Authority members will consider a consultation report and vote on proposals to meet a significant Government grant reduction, on 10 July at the Service Headquarters in Exeter.

The Service is looking at managing significant on-going budget cuts, now anticipated to be around £8m by 2015, following the Spending Review announcement last week. Proposals aimed at providing an affordable and effective service, without removing fire stations, fire engines or making compulsory redundancies, were developed for public consultation earlier this year.
