Expect the unexpected this September as The Unexpected Festival comes to Exeter.

The Unexpected Festival will take place from 15-22 September and will include activities such as art making, music acts and other contemporary performances. It really all is in the name, the festival will not take place in one conventional location, but instead, across several locations in Exeter.

This September you really will never know when you could come across the unexpected.

Cllr Rosie Denham, Exeter City Council, said: '’The major aim behind Unexpected 2013 is to enhance Exeter as the cultural hub for the South West, working in partnership to improve the quality of life for all people living, working in and visiting the city.'’ '

’Arts Council England data reveals that for every £1 invested in arts & culture up to £6 is generated for the local economy. The Festival will build on the city's Olympic and cultural legacy, raising the profile of Exeter as the South West gateway for the arts and as a highly desirable destination for visitors of all types.'’

‘'Running over eight packed days - Unexpected 2013 is a crucial incubator for new high quality, innovative outdoor and site specific work, providing the crucial opportunity to support emerging regional talent from the city’s thriving cultural scene, commission new projects and to bring artists of national and international acclaim to Exeter.'’

The Unexpected Festival is a new venture for Exeter, and is set to be a truly unique experience for all who visit. The Festival is distinctive in that it aims for audiences of all ages and for families on all incomes. Some of the events taking place will be free, whilst others will be charged at a minimal cost.

Exeter residents and visitors will also be treated to a world premiere performance from circus company Extraordinary Bodies, proving that this festival is set to make its mark on Devon. Regular news and social media announcements will be made about the event between now and September - look for Unexpected 2013 on Twitter and Unexpected Exeter on Facebook.
