Wain Homes Golf Day Raises Nearly £19,000 for Devon Hospice
A Devon hospice has received a welcome boost of nearly £19,000 following housebuilder Wain Homes’ annual South West Charity Golf Day at Bovey Castle.
More than 70 golfers from across the housebuilding industry took part in the event in support of Hospiscare, Wain Homes’ South West charity of the year. The charity provides specialist care and support to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses across Exeter and central and east Devon.
Hospiscare helps more than 2,000 people each year through services including care at home, a specialist palliative care ward, outpatient clinics and supportive therapies.
A total of 18 teams competed on the day, with Liskeard-based Champion Groundworks taking first place. Funds were raised through team entries, generous corporate sponsorship and an auction.
Steve Goldsworthy, regional managing director of Wain Homes, said: "We're proud to support the incredible work of Hospiscare as our charity of the year. The charity provides vital care and support to local people and their families when they need it most.
"Hospiscare has been helping communities across the region for more than 40 years and relies heavily on fundraising to continue delivering its services. I'd like to thank everyone who took part in the golf day, along with our sponsors and those who donated auction prizes, for helping us raise this fantastic amount."
Ellie Melmoth, partnerships manager at Hospiscare said: ‘Wain Homes has been an incredible supporter of Hospiscare for several years now since joining our 40 club. The genuine kindness of their staff shines through having visited Searle House, our in-patient unit, on several occasions to see the impact of their work.
“By raising close to £19,000 on their annual golf day, they are giving back to the community they serve in the most beautiful of ways. The team understand deeply the work that we do and truly stand beside us in our mission to make every day matter. Our work could not continue without the generosity and drive of our local business community. We are so grateful to everyone involved.”
Wain Homes currently has eight developments across Devon and Cornwall.
