Curtain falls on Ladies Night at Exeter Racecourse

The curtain came down on Ladies Night at Exeter Racecourse on Friday evening, with a strong crowd enjoying the final fixture of the 2025/26 season in style.

A lively atmosphere and plenty of laughter set the tone as guests gathered for a fun-filled event. Sam Binney, visiting from Southampton on a hen do, was announced as the winner.

“This is really unexpected, and I’m actually quite shocked, if I’m honest. I was really worried about today, but I think it’s worked out well. I’m really excited,” she said.

Exeter Racecourse stages the richest raceday in Devon next Tuesday ( November 2nd ), which is Haldon Gold Cup Day.

The Grade Two Haldon Gold Cup is staged over just short of two and a quarter miles and boasts an outstanding roll of honour with the likes of Best Mate, Edredon Bleu, Cue Card and Politologue all having been successful since the turn of the century.

Paul Nicholls, the 12-times champion Jump trainer has already landed the Haldon Gold Cup on a record seven occasions and has two likely starters in 2021 - Greaneteen and Hitman .

Boxing is thought to have been around in Britain since 1681, with regular boxing matches being held in London’s Royal Theatre in 1698. Back in those days, boxing was considered to be a ”gentleman’s sport”. The monarchy of the time, King George was such a big fan of his fellow nobleman that he even set up a boxing ring in Hyde Park in 1723. Boxing went from strength to strength over the coming decades, with Britain producing a number of lighter weight titles in the early 1900s through fighters such as Bill Ladbury, Teddy Baldock and George Stanley.

Red Roses set to inspire the next generation of female rugby players

England’s Red Roses will take on New Zealand’s Black Ferns at Exeter’s Sandy Park at the end of the month in a fixture that could “inspire the next generation of female rugby players.”

England Women take on New Zealand in the first of their autumn internationals at Sandy Park on Sunday 31 October - kick-off 2.30pm. Tickets have already gone on sale.

It’s the first of a double-header against the Black Ferns who England then face in Northampton a week later before taking on Canada (14 November, Twickenham Stoop, London) and USA (21 November, Sixways, Worcester).
