Lottery boost for adventure centre plans

Ambitious plans to build a state-of-the-art scout hut and adventure centre in Topsham have received a boost this week.

The group behind the project to create the half a million pound Topsham Adventure Centre has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, bringing their fundraising total to date to more than £100,000.

Back by popular demand Topsham Rugby Club will be hosting their Car Boot Sale on the Bank Holidays this summer (Monday 7th May, Monday 28th May and Monday 27th August) from 9:30 am to 1pm.

Public on foot - free entrance. We would welcome a £1 donation for parking.

Sellers will be welcome to set up at 8am with fees £6 per car and small vans, larger vehicles and trailers at £10 each.

The clubhouse will be open with hot food and drinks available all morning and the Bar will also be open towards lunchtime, with guest ales and longstanding favourites on offer.

Exeter University Concert Band invites you to their annual Christmas Concert on Saturday 2nd December at 7pm in St Margaret's Church, Topsham.

The band will be performing a variety of pieces, including lots of well-known scores from stage and screen, some classical wind band numbers, and of course some festive tunes to get everyone in the spirit of Christmas.

Tickets are £5 and £3 for concessions, available to purchase on the door.

New community space rapidly taking shape in Topsham

A new community space that will benefit thousands of people is rapidly taking shape in Topsham. Work on the Estuary Community Hub started in May and is scheduled to be completed and ready to open next summer. A Grass Roots grant – money raised through local developments like IKEA – is helping towards the construction and fitting out of a new two-storey contemporary building on the site of the old Topsham Library. The Hub will have 18 fully accessible rooms and a community garden. “Once complete, we will have a facility to be proud of,” said Rachel Gilpin, of the Estuary League of Friends...

Work required on Topsham Lock

Work needs to be carried out to an old disused lock on Exeter Ship Canal, the City Council has revealed. Steel sheet piling which was installed in the early 1970s to prevent the waters of the Canal escaping into the River Exe is showing signs of age and needs to be repaired. A more detailed inspection including ground investigation and access improvements which will lead to remedial work has been authorised to take place this month, under delegated powers. Now members of the City Council’s Executive will, on 12 September, be asked to look at plans for the future of the lock.
