Hundreds of youngsters set to take part in Devon Ability Games

Three hundred youngsters from mainstream special educational needs departments and Special Schools will be taking part in the Devon ability games in Barnstaple this week. The event is being staged at the Tarka Tennis Centre on Wednesday 6th February. The opening ceremony begins at 10.15 am and will include a street dancing performance by a group of students from Great Torrington School.

A free event offering youngsters with Down’s syndrome the chance to try out a variety of sports is taking place in Devon in March… and it’s looking for participants.

The Multi-Sports Festival will be held at Blundell’s School in Tiverton on Monday 4th March and participants of all ages and abilities are invited to take part.

Work being carried out at Exmouth’s Warren View Sports Ground as part of pioneering sports hub proposals

Investigation work is being carried out at Exmouth’s Warren View Sports Ground by East Devon’s contractor Geotechnics Limited over the next few weeks to give reassurance that the site is suitable for all-weather pitches and other multi-sport facilities.

East Devon District Council is working with the Devon-based charity Exeter CITY Community Trust to develop a pioneering sports hub at the Ground, which is one of a number of sports and recreation sites owned and protected by the council in Exmouth and across the district.

Reopening of Exeter's Riverside Leisure Centre delayed

The reopening of the pool and health suite at Exeter’s Riverside Leisure Centre will not take place early in the New Year as previously expected.

The building suffered fire and smoke damage to surface coatings, mechanical and engineering plant, roof decking and structural elements, as well as smoke damage throughout the facility, following the blaze in February 2017.

The sports hall, gym and fitness studios reopened to the public soon after the fire. But the pool and health suite remain closed.

Local tug of war club aiming for national championship titles

Haldon Tug of War Club are set to compete in the National Outdoor Tug of War Championships on Saturday 16 June in Oxfordshire. The Tug of War Association (TOWA) is holding its 2018 competition at the third annual Grove and Wantage Extravaganza, with tug of war teams from across the country competing for gold medals in different weight classes.
