Six of the Westcountry's top sports stars will make up the teams for the return of our Question of Sport event, at Sandy Park on Thursday 27th January.

Based around the same successful workings of the hit BBC show, the stars will have their sporting knowledge tested during a series of fun-filled rounds that will be overseen by quizmaster Mark Tyler.

This time around we're going to be welcoming some past favourites as well as some new stars to the panel!

70lb net wins top spot in prestigious Cofton Cup Fishing Competition

South Devon’s highly regarded coarse fishing destination, Cofton Holidays, has crowned Andy Everill as winner of its autumn Cofton Cup Fishing competition.

A keen fisherman, this is Andy’s third consecutive Cofton Cup title and his fourth overall having previously won Cofton Cup II, V and VI. The multi award-winning holiday park, hosted the seventh competition on its Mamhead Match Lake over five days of intensive fishing. The field was narrowed down from 44 anglers in the opening rounds to 22 in the final, with the remainder battling it out for the Plate competition.

Red Roses set to inspire the next generation of female rugby players

England’s Red Roses will take on New Zealand’s Black Ferns at Exeter’s Sandy Park at the end of the month in a fixture that could “inspire the next generation of female rugby players.”

England Women take on New Zealand in the first of their autumn internationals at Sandy Park on Sunday 31 October - kick-off 2.30pm. Tickets have already gone on sale.

It’s the first of a double-header against the Black Ferns who England then face in Northampton a week later before taking on Canada (14 November, Twickenham Stoop, London) and USA (21 November, Sixways, Worcester).

Some of the biggest names in cycling will be competing in this year’s Tour of Britain, and if you’re planning to watch them in action in Devon on Monday 6 September you can take your pick of 115 miles along the route.

Devon County Council will host Stage Two of the 17th edition of the race on Monday 6 September, with a stella field of riders including Mark Cavendish and Wout Van Aert due to take to the start line.

Taylor Wimpey creates new football pitch for Exeter College

Taylor Wimpey is investing almost half a million pounds in Exeter's sporting stars of the future through the development of new facilities for Exeter College.

The housebuilder is creating a new pitch and changing rooms for the college as part of its Riverside Walk development off Wear Barton Road.

The ground was levelled last year and the pitch has now been seeded. The changing rooms are currently under construction and both should be ready for handover to the college by the summer, weather permitting.

Leisure centres set to reopen across the city

Exeter’s leisure centres are set to reopen in the coming weeks following extensive work to ensure they are safe to use.

A phased reopening will take place from September and each centre will be run under the direct management of the City Council rather than being outsourced to a private company.

The plan is to reopen the centres on the following dates, provided the necessary COVID security measures are complete:

  • ISCA Centre and Exeter Arena – 28 September
  • Wonford Sports Centre and Northbrook Swimming Pool – 5 October

A new website dedicated solely to women’s sport was launched today (Tuesday 14 July).

Women's Sport Daily will cover all female professional sport – from football, netball and cricket to tennis, golf and Olympic disciplines.

There will also be the chance to promote news about your school, club and local teams in a unique Community section, as well as exclusive interviews and columns from sporting stars and the people who influence how girls and women watch, play and enjoy the action.

Despite the Coronavirus restrictions, Devon’s schoolchildren will still be able to take part in the popular School Games this year. In fact, it’s ‘virtually’ the same as normal!

Active Devon, working with partners, is launching the ‘Virtual’ games which get underway with a Walk, Jog, Run challenge starting on Monday May 18th. Primary School pupils will have 20, 30 and 40 mile targets, while those in Secondary Schools will aim for 40, 60 and 80 miles.
