Teignbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards finalists revealed

The finalists of 2015’s Teignbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards have been unveiled.

The judges have been busy selecting and writing to the committed and talented people who have been selected as finalists for the Awards, which recognise sporting success and contributions at all levels around the district.

Winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony on Friday 4 December at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.

Drive to make Exeter an active city

An exciting campaign to make Exeter the most active city in the South West stepped into gear.

Get Active Exeter is a growing partnership of public and private sector organisations, including local media, large employers and councils, who have joined together in a bid to make the city the most active in the South West by 2018.

A programme of activity will run over three years, and will include 90 different get active projects across the city.

For the first phase of activity, large local employers like EDF Energy and Exeter City Council will be targeted for workplace...

Spend an afternoon at Newton Abbot Racecourse and enjoy thrilling jumps racing on Monday 28 September.

The first race is at 14:00 and gates open at 12:00. The last race is at 16:30.

Tickets can be bought online until 17:00 on Sunday 27 September. There will also be tickets available at the gate on the day. Tickets are priced at £18 for the Paddock Enclosure and £12 for the Course Enclosure.

Remember – Children aged 16 and under plus students with a valid photographic ID / NUS card can enjoy free entry.

Rugby players take note: drinking high nitrate beetroot juice improves both sprint performance and decision-making during prolonged intermittent exercise such as rugby and football, according to scientists from the University of Exeter.

Exeter Wheelers feature in road safety video

The Exeter based cycling club Exeter Wheelers played an integral part in the filming of the SPACE; a road safety video created by Chris Boardman and BikeBiz editor Carlton Reid.

The video titled SPACE has now gone viral online with over 45,000 views in less than 24 hours aims to educate drivers on how much room a cyclist or group of riders need when overtaking them.

As Boardman points out, riders aren't just an obstacle to be avoided, they are people's loved ones.
