The long periods of disruption to rail travel between Exeter and the rest of the country during the recent wet weather seems finally to be registering with the Government.

I first raised concerns in Parliament during the flooding in late November and early December. This week, following the further disruption in over Christmas and up to New Year, a fellow South West MP raised the problem at Prime Minister’s Questions.

I have a question to the Transport Secretary on the Commons order paper and have written to both Network Rail and First Great Western requesting meetings to...

Neil Parish MP, Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare, is backing a new campaign by leading animal welfare charity, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to urge prospective dog owners to think twice about how they buy a dog, in an attempt to crack down on the horrific practice of backstreet dog breeding.

Wilberforce, a seven year old Labrador Retriever, belonging to Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, just missed out on a place on the podium in the 22nd annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition.

The competition, organised by the Kennel Club and Dogs Trust, took place on Thursday (23rd October), in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster. Wilberforce showed dogged determination as he battled it out amongst 21 paw-litical opponents. The MPs entering the competition campaigned hard, canvassing for votes from the public before meeting the expert judges to boast about their dog’s...

Westcountry MP raises awareness of flash flooding in Tavistock

Torridge and West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox visited Tavistock yesterday to help raise awareness of the dangers of flash flooding, part of the Environment Agency’s nationwide flood awareness and action campaign.

The Environment Agency has identified Tavistock and Horrabridge as being at risk of flash flooding from rivers and is keen to help these communities prepare for possible flooding. Flash floods can happen very quickly – much faster than other forms of flooding – and with massive force. Often there’s no time to issue flood warnings in advance
