Neil Parish MP works with RSPCA to help improve animal welfare in Devon

Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil hosted the RSPCA annual reception at the House of Commons on Tuesday 17th June. Neil Parish, who is also Chairman of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, met with RSPCA inspectors, as well as members of the police and representatives from local authorities.

As part of World Animal Protection’s Sea Change Week (4 -11th June) the international charity was at Westminster encouraging MPs to take action for marine animals.

MP walks the Guide Dogs Walk of Fame

Neil Parish MP was given a star on Guide Dogs’ pavement parking Walk of Fame for supporting the charity’s campaign to stop cars parking on pavements.

The MP for Tiverton and Honiton attended Guide Dogs’ event at the Houses of Parliament on the 10th of June in support of their campaign. The charity wants people living with sight loss to feel confident and independent when they are out and about, and believes that vehicles parked on pavements put people living with sight loss in danger.

Conservative Hugo Swire has been re-elected by 25,401 votes as the MP for East Devon – with a majority of 12,261. This is Hugo Swire’s fourth Parliamentary victory – he first became MP in June 2001, and was subsequently re-elected in May 2005 and May 2010. It is also his largest majority since 2001.

The parliamentary election results for East Devon were declared by the Acting Returning Officer, Mark Williams, at East Devon District Council’s offices at Knowle in Sidmouth at 7.15 a.m. today (Friday 8 May).

The Green Party has launched its General Election Manifesto, ‘For the Common Good’.

Greens say the manifesto, which can be found here , sets out a bold, ambitious plan for a fairer society and safer planet and there is a strong emphasis on commitments to restoring and extending public services and tackling climate change.

Health Secretary supports Devon’s community hospitals

The Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, has said that community hospitals “have a vital role to play” in localised care in Devon.

MP to host screening of Human Rights documentary

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, is hosting a special screening in the Houses of Parliament of “To Light a Candle” - a documentary on the persecution of Iran’s Bahá’í community produced by acclaimed independent Iranian journalist and filmmaker Maziar Bahari.

Government must come clean on plans to deal with Devon NHS financial crisis

It is essential the Government comes clean and announces its plans for those NHS areas in the worst financial trouble, including Devon, before the election. Otherwise, the public will quite rightly conclude Ministers are trying to “bury bad news” until after May 7th.

I have it on good authority that the NHS was expecting to announce “intervention and support” regimes for the most “financially distressed” NHS areas at the same time as the new “vanguard” integration pilots, which were unveiled this week. This didn’t happen.

Neil Parish MP, Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare, has hosted the Launch of the UK's first 'Manifesto for Cats' in the House of Commons, on Tuesday 10th February.

Cats Protection, the nation's leading cat charity, unveiled the 10-point document, with support from PetPlan, at a reception attended by more than 35 MPs and Lords including Lord de Mauley, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for natural environment and science; and Angela Smith MP, shadow minister for environment, food and rural affairs.

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, wore Healthy Seas socks made partly from recycled fishing nets this week in order to show support for World Animal Protections’ Sea Change campaign.

Aiming to reduce the amount of lost and discarded fishing gear that harms and entangles millions of animals, the charity asked MPs to support their move to achieve safer, cleaner oceans by raising awareness of innovative solutions such as socks from recycled fishing gear on social media.
