Neil Parish MP supports call for jobs and growth

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, attended an event at the House of Commons highlighting the new jobs and extra contribution to public finances that would be generated by scrapping the super tax on wine and spirits.

Organised by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, the event helped publicise independent research by Ernst & Young, which has found that 6000 new jobs would be created and an extra £230 million generated for the public finances if the super tax were scrapped in the March Budget.

Arctic 30 cannot return home for Christmas

The Arctic 30 have been told they cannot leave Russia and return home for Christmas despite a ruling by an international court ordering their release.

The environmental charity Greenpeace has revealed that Russia investigative committee has written to one of its activists- Anne Mie Jensen from Denmark - indicating that they are not free to leave the country.

The charity’s lawyers have said that they expect this to be the case for all of the non-Russian members of the Arctic 30, including six Britons.

MP pledges support for HIV campaign

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, has pledged his support for Halve It, a national coalition campaign that aims to halve late diagnosis and undiagnosed HIV in the UK by 2015.

Protests against privatisation of Student Loans Company

A ‘National Day of Action’, coordinated by the Student Assembly Against Austerity group (SAAA), is taking place today (20th November 2013) on university campuses all over the country. This comes as a response to Government plans to privatise the Student Loans Company by 2015. In June of this year, in fact, the Government announced their aim to raise £15 billion from the sale of public assets by 2020. Secretary of State for Education awards prizes for Exeter Mathematics School competition

The winners of a region-wide mathematics competition, run by Exeter Mathematics School, were awarded their prizes by the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, in a ceremony held on Thursday 7 November at the Department for Education.

The overall winners, from The Royal High School, Bath, demonstrated their mathematical and communications skills by providinga solution to ‘Bezout’s Buckets’ in an entertaining fashion.

MP to welcome local insurer's new apprentice

NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, has appointed Laura Holman under a Business and Administrative Apprenticeship scheme coordinated by Bicton College.

The year-long scheme awards apprentices with an NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration alongside a comprehensive training schedule with a suitable business partnership.
