East Devon’s MP Simon Jupp visited Exeter City Football Club’s Cliff Hill Training Ground to tour their new multi-million-pound building.

Visiting the club’s training ground on Sidmouth Road, Simon Jupp MP had the opportunity to look at the new two-storey building, which includes a fitness suite, briefing rooms, physiotherapy facilities, and office space. Construction cost in excess of £3 million and a fundraising campaign to ‘Kit Out The Cliff’ raised £63,000 to equip the new building.

Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw visits local mental health crisis service

Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw joins staff at The Moorings, a local service providing help to anyone struggling with their mental health.

The service, which is delivered by Mental Health Matters, provides free mental health support to anyone aged 18 and over and helped over 5,000 visitors last year across three sites in Exeter, Barnstaple, and Torquay.

A former assistant to outgoing Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw will be Labour’s next parliamentary candidate in the city.

Steve Race, who is a currently a councillor in Hackney, a London borough, defeated three other shortlisted candidates in a vote of Exeter Labour Party members on Saturday [16 July].

Mr Bradshaw, the city’s representative since 1997, announced in February that he will not be seeking re-election when the UK chooses its next government.

East Devon MP secures financial support for regional airports

Regional airports including Exeter Airport will be able to apply for dedicated financial support after a campaign by East Devon MP Simon Jupp.

The new support package for regional airports in England will provide business rates relief and cover fixed costs up to £8 million per airport.

The scheme will open for applications in January and follows calls by East Devon MP Simon Jupp to help secure financial support to protect the future of Exeter Airport.

The Donkey Sanctuary welcomed the Rt Hon Sir Hugo Swire to its international headquarters in Sidmouth last week, where he met the charity’s chief executive officer Mike Baker and was given a tour of the sanctuary.

The Member of Parliament for East Devon was given a brief history of the organisation and how it plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. A top scientist is swapping labs for lobbies as he spends a week in Westminster.

Professor Craig Williams, from the University of Exeter, is shadowing Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw this week to learn about his work.

For 12 local jobseekers the New Year is starting well as they have been selected to take part in a specially designed training course to help them get back to work.

Ben Bradshaw, MP for Exeter, visited an optical practice in his constituency on Friday 4th December to find out why regular eye tests are so important in preventing blindness.

The Labour MP for Exeter was joined by Nicki Pullen from Pullen and Symes Opticians and Jonathan Drew from Devon Local Optical Committee to see for himself the work carried out at the practice and found out what community eye care can be delivered in opticians beyond regular sight testing which delivers ‘care close to home’ and is easily accessed by local people.
