Hospiscare’s Breakfast Run 2017 has been launched to the delight of the students at Heathcote Primary School in Tiverton, who held a Bring your Teddy to School day to celebrate the occasion.
Hospiscare’s George the Mouse joined them, helping to explain how the Breakfast Run at Knightshayes on the 17th September will help local patients and their families.
The Breakfast Run, a sponsored walk, run or jog will raise much needed donations to maintain and develop hospice services that are led from Pine Lodge in Tiverton. Situated on Post Hill in Tiverton, Pine Lodge provides...
A multi-trade craftsman at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised hundreds of pounds for local charities thanks to his unusual sci-fi hobby.
Dedicated Doctor Who fan Ronald Munns, from the hospital’s Estates Department, has been building incredibly realistic Daleks in his shed at home in Pathfinder Village. He initially started building the Daleks for fun in his spare time using scraps of wood and leftover materials, however soon realised they could have a more charitable purpose.
Since 2013, he has built two full-sized Daleks, one red and one black, which now...
The theme for this year’s all-female Twilight Walk on Saturday is “Back To The '80s”. And one group of Girls (who) Just Wanna Have Fun will be the assorted group of vets and administrative staff from Corner House Vets in Exmouth. They will also receive support from a very special friend: Ella the Owl, the event mascot! No doubt, she’ll be hoping for a performance of the Birdie Song!
In fact, as Jo Mason Managing Director of Corner House Vets confirms, they have entered a team for the walk for the last two years.
“We’ve been practicing veterinary healthcare for 32 years,”...
Hospiscare and Chilcotts Auctioneers are celebrating raising funds of more than £10,000 with an ongoing fundraising initiative that benefits both the charity and visitors to auctions.
Chilcotts’ staff kitchen at the Silver Street sale room – which is next to the livestock market - is used every sale day by the local Hospiscare team to sell teas, coffees, savoury snacks such as bacon rolls and popular homemade cakes, with every penny raised going to the charity.
The initiative has been running for six years after husband and wife team Duncan and Liz Chilcott suggested...
Rebecca Goodenough and a group of friends are having a Hen Night with a difference. They are taking part in The Twilight Walk, a ladies only event in Exmouth on 8th July raising much needed funds for Hospiscare.
When she was just 13 years old Rebecca's mum died in St Michael’s Hospice, East Sussex. This was back in 1987 when it was a rarity to find a hospice, and at that time there were just six beds available at St Michael’s.
She recalls, “We just felt that mum was so lucky to be in a hospice. I know that sounds strange to say but it’s by far the best place to be if you...
The latest Hospiscare shop to open in the city is already proving a huge success. Indeed, the shop which opened in March and is situated in Heavitree is already very keen to recruit volunteers to help as much as possible.
“The new shop has been very well received by the public,” confirms shop manager Bonnie Gilbert. “Being the closest shop physically to the hospice itself, local people have been very keen to support us. Now we need just need volunteers to keep up with demand.

Jonathan Kirby, Artistic Director of performing arts company Kagemusha Taiko, has produced a new piece of music with three taiko (drum) compositions entitled: Dignity, Love, and Legacy.
The inspiration for ‘A Good Death’ came from an interview about end-of-life care which Jonathan heard on the radio.
“When the interviewee said that a good death involved dignity, love and legacy, I knew immediately that I had to compose something for taiko on that theme,” said Jonathan.
“Taiko seemed to me to be the perfect medium for expressing these ideas because of the way...

Already having five marathons under her belt and at 74 years young, Liz is about to embark on her sixth, joining the other 38,000 people who will take part in this year’s London Marathon.
Liz commented, “I follow the marathon training programme and around a month before the event itself you do your longest run. I have just completed a 22 miler from the centre of Exeter to Dawlish Warren and back, so...
