Well done Team GemFest for another brilliant fun filled mini indoor festival at the Exeter Phoenix.

You’ve also raised money for Exeter Hospiscare – thank you Team GemFest and all the artists, businesses and volunteers who gave their time and the crowds who supported the event on Easter Sunday.

GemFest featured an afternoon of family fun at the Exeter Phoenix Centre, with lots of music, games, face painting and Easter eggs, with great music from Teens Support Hospiscare.

The evening saw an amazing line up of local talent featuring an eclectic mix of music, comedy,...

RockSolid Race Exeter - Go Team Hospiscare!

Thousands of runners braved the cold to take part in the RockSolid Race, an obstacle endurance race at Escot over the weekend.

Despite the freezing temperatures they queued up in their shorts and t-shirts to climb, jump and race either 5k, 10k or 15k.

Hospiscare entered three brave teams cheered on by staff from our city hospice, Searle House on the RD&E site.

After a warm up session it was off down the hill to discover what horrors lay in wait – freezing cold ponds, nearly vertical walls to climb, streams to cross, ladder bridges to crawl across, a sack race, a...

Otter Nurseries has donated special seeds of remembrance to be given to participants in the 2016 Ladies Twilight Walk in aid of Hospiscare.

Exeter’s very special mini-indoor music and performance festival GemFest 2016 takes place on Easter Sunday, March 27 at the Exeter Phoenix.

The event is organised by Gemma Wensley, a brain tumour ‘survivor’ from Exeter, and a committed team of her friends. Gemma has recently returned from a holiday of a lifetime in Australia and New Zealand, a trip she was planning before she was struck down with an inoperable brain tumour in 2009.

Gemma said: “I really did have the time of my life! It was so emotional to finally get to Australia as I have always wanted to go. When I became...

Exeter Hospiscare Men's Walk PICTURES

Almost 500 men walked in bright sunshine along Exeter’s canal raising thousands of pounds for local charity Hospiscare.

The walk started and finished at the Double Locks where the walkers were treated to a pint and a pasty before settling down to watch the Six Nations rugby. Sponsorship on the day alone raised £10,000 and Hospiscare hopes to reach its target of £30,000.

Charlotte Knipe, Hospiscare fundraiser, said: “It was a great day, the sun was shining, there was a fun atmosphere and it was so nice to see the men relax after the walk and enjoy their pints and pasties. It...

Go Kevin!

We’ve raised £890 on Just Giving! No, wait, add gift aid of £100 and that makes it £990 and still counting!

That’s a recent conversation at our house. Our good friend Ruth Regan died last year and her husband Kevin is taking part in Hospiscare’s sponsored Men’s Walk to thank Hospiscare for its “outstanding” support given to them both.

The donations and comments on Kevin’s JustGiving page are a wonderful testament to Ruth, Kevin and Hospiscare.

After being married for 47 years Kevin was understandably bewildered and confused by his new life alone, but the Men’s Walk...

“Our Neon Wonderland will open an hour before the run starts, giving you the opportunity to freshen up your face paints...

The local charity, which cares for hundreds of terminally ill patients in Exeter, is launching a new volunteering role in the city after a successful pilot project in Honiton.

Volunteers, called care navigators, regularly visit patients at home and provide a link between the patient, their carer, Hospiscare’s team and the wider health and social care system.

Pat Northcott loves her new role as a Hospiscare care navigator. Once a week she spends an afternoon with Ken and Ann Kittow at their Honiton home. “It's satisfying helping other people,” says Pat. “It's a real pleasure...
