If ever there was a time for the Grecians to demonstrate their promotion credentials then surely this match against the Gills – the one team across npower League 2 with an ounce of breathing space – is their opportunity. City come away empty handed from West Country Derby

Exeter City succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in a West Country derby against a buoyant Bristol Rovers side.

The Pirates piled on the early pressure before taking the lead when Ollie Norburn’s speculative effort crept under the body of Artur Krysiak and into the net.

The Grecians changed formation in the second period with a couple of substitutions that looked to add a little dynamism to the City attack, but Lee Brown’s firecracker with less than ten minutes remaining put the game out of reach for City.

There was only a single swap to Paul Tisdale’s starting XI – 19-year-...

Preview: Bristol Rovers v Exeter City Exeter City will be hoping that they can repeat their weekend success this Wednesday evening when they visit in-form West Country rivals Bristol Rovers.

Having brushed aside Northampton Town 3-0 on Saturday, the Grecians will have renewed belief that the push for promotion is by and large in their own hands – other results from around npower League 2 fortunately went in Exeter’s favour too. The team will also be hoping that this match doesn’t prove to be a banana skin – which it often has been in the past – and will look to build on the seven...

Preview: Exeter City v Northampton Today's guests at St James Park are former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd’s promotion-hopefuls Northampton Town. With about a quarter of the 2012/13 season left to play it is still no clearer who will be going up automatically or via the play-offs to npower League 1, though this crunch match may have a significant bearing on Exeter City’s chances. The Cobblers travel to the South West boasting of their high team-IQ (defender Clarke Carlisle was named ‘Britain’s Brainiest Footballer’ in 2002) but the Grecians are equally proud to have the trendiest...

Friend hat-trick helps Dawlish cruise to victory

DAWLISH UNITED 4-1 CHAGFORD

Three goals from Ben Friend helped Dawlish United cruise to victory in the Devon & Exeter League 2nd Division, keeping first place in close sight.

In a first half in which the hosts forced no less than ten corners, it came as no surprise when Kristain Rabbage capitalised to net his side in front after 22 minutes, shortly after himself and Isaac Reed had shots saved.

As more pressure mounted on the visitors in the seaside sun, Dawlish doubled their lead when Friend headed in from a free-kick in the 39th minute - his first of the...
