City huff and puff but can't blow Rangers' defence down

Report: Exeter City 0 QPR 2

Exeter City fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The game got off to an unfortunate start for Exeter, when Jermaine Jenas saw his shot deflected in by Charlie Austin in the second minute.

Danny Simpson, another summer signing for the Hoops, doubled the lead for Rangers with a smart run up the wing from the right-back position.

For all City’s huffing and puffing – and going close to reducing the arrears – it was the visitors that secured passage to the...

City manager says Grecians have "nothing to lose" in cup tie against QPR

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale has expressed excitement ahead of tonight's Capital One Cup first round tie against Queens Park Rangers.

The Grecians have arguably been dealt the toughest hand available, as visitors QPR are the only club that were playing Premier League football last season to be in the first round draw. But for Tis, all the pressure lies with the Hoops while his team can try to cause a cup upset – like they almost did against Ipswich and Crystal Palace in recent years.

“It’s a terrific game to play in and we’ve got nothing to lose,” said Paul. “Saturday was...

Report: Exeter City 2 Bristol Rovers 1

A debut goal by Sam Parkin rounded off an opening-day win for Exeter City against local rivals Bristol Rovers.

City had gone ahead initially in the second half through captain Danny Coles, who thundered a header into the net.

However the Gas were level soon after when Eliot Richards diverted a cross into the net with a smart run.

But a great diving header by Parkin from an Arron Davies delivery sealed three points to get the Grecians off and running in 2013/14.

New signings Parkin and David Wheeler were...

Grecians make light work of Bluebirds

Report by Richard Dorman

The Grecians ended pre-season in forceful fashion with a 7-1 victory away at Chippenham Town.

Goals by Jake Gosling, Matt Jay (twice), Tom Nichols, Jimmy Keohane, Ollie Watkins and Jordan Tillson made light work of the Bluebirds – despite City only leading 1-0 into the final period.

The hosts had in fact themselves levelled through Isaac Reid, before the Grecians opened the floodgates.

City took a young side to Hardenhuish Park for the final pre-season fixture at Chippenham Town. Jacob Wannell took on the captain’s duties, whilst...

Swansea allow Exeter to keep all gate receipts at upcoming friendly

Exeter City Chief Executive Julian Tagg has given his thanks to Swansea City for allowing the Grecians to keep all the gate receipts from the upcoming friendly fixture at the Park on Sunday – and is urging fans to come along to enjoy the match and help the club financially. In normal circumstances, it is commonplace for teams to share the proceeds of the gate in cup and friendly fixtures. However in this instance, Swansea have magnanimously allowed Exeter City to keep the gate takings – therefore meaning that every pound that is paid on the day will be of benefit to the club. The Swans...

Later in the season, City will travel to the Proact Stadium on Good Friday (18 April 2014) for another 7.45pm kick-off, which replaces the original fixture which was pencilled in for Saturday 19 April. St James Park hosted Friday night football last...

Striker added to the City squad

Exeter City have completed the signing of striker Sam Parkin, subject to international clearance.

The 32-year-old front-man moves back to England to join the Grecians after having spent three seasons playing north of the border – for St Johnstone, Queen of the South, and most recently Scottish Premier League side St Mirren, with whom he won the Scottish League Cup last season.

After starting his playing career as a youth player at Chelsea, Parkin went on to have permanent spells with Swindon (with a better than one-in-two strike-rate over his three seasons) Ipswich, Luton...

Trust in Cricket!

Exeter City Football Club Supporters’ Trust is pleased to announce that, following the success of last year's event, a T20 (20 overs) cricket match is scheduled to take place between Tis and the players and an Invitational XI of City supporters and sponsors. The match will take place on Wednesday 10 July at Topsham St James (Topsham rugby club, not to be confused with the University cricket field) at 5.30 pm.

Proceeds from the evening will be split between ‘Football in the Community’ and the Youth Academy – two excellent causes. If you would like to get involved as a player, places...
