Summer fun in Exeter with Exeter City's football roadshows

Bookings are now being taken for Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community roadshows, which are again running throughout the summer holidays across the region.

The events kick off with Match Mania on Friday 26 July, a full day’s festival of fun and games for children aged 5-14, and the programme then continues for the whole of August finishing with a two-day roadshow at St Luke’s Science and Sports College on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 September.

There will be three roadshow dates in Exeter, plus events in Dawlish, Exmouth, Cullompton, Honiton, Sidmouth, Crediton, Tiverton, Seaton, Feniton, Okehampton, North Tawton, Hatherleigh and Bideford. There is also a full programme of roadshows in North Devon, run in conjunction with North Devon Council, at Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, South Molton and Braunton.

Other events being held in Exeter include two Star Tots days for 3-6 year olds on August 7 and 19 and two blocks of Grecian Days, where children can get a behind the scenes look at St James Park, from 5-9 August and 27-30 August.

Specialist futsal days for children aged 7-14 are being held at the University of Exeter on 29 July, 7, 13 and 30 August, while three Goalkeepers’ and Strikers’ days are running on 2, 12 and 28 August.

There are also two week-long “ball and pool” courses being held in conjunction with the University of Exeter, where children get an hour of football training and an hour of swimming every day.

“We are offering more courses than ever before this summer,” says Scott Walker, FITC’s sport development officer. “With a wide geographical spread and a wide choice of options, we hope there is something for everyone. Children need plenty of exercise and stimulation during the summer holidays and what better way to keep fit and have fun than to combine football with making friends?”

All roadshows apart from the futsal days are suitable for boys and girls aged from five to 14 and the main focus is fun and participation through team and individual games. There are daily competitions and prizes to be won, plus everyone goes home with a goody bag and certificate.

All courses are delivered by Exeter City’s FA-qualified coaching staff.
