Exeter City claim first League Two victory of the season over Accrington Stanley

Exeter City claimed their first three points of the season on Saturday when they defeated Accrington Stanley 2-0 at St. James’ Park.

Things started brilliantly for the hosts, as they managed to open the scoring inside the first two minutes of the game. After getting down within an attacking area of the pitch inside the first few moments of the game, Charlie Cummins threw a long ball into the box that was headed away to captain Jack Fitzwater, who managed to acrobatically put the ball into the back of the net to give them the opener.

The win comes after two defeats in the first two competitive games of the season, the first a 2-0 derby defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the first round of the Carabao Cup. The 1-0 defeat to Grimsby last weekend wasn’t the way the club would have wanted to start life in League Two after being relegated last season.

Now, with a victory on the board and three points to their name, the Grecians can look forward to trying to build on something positive, with a trip to the LNER Community Stadium to play newly promoted York City. They are unbeaten in their two games so far, having beaten Bristol Rovers 3-2 at home before drawing 1-1 to Rotherham United this past weekend on the road.
