Saudi heartbreak in thrilling finale to Exeter City FC Diversity Tournament

There was heartbreak for the Saudi Arabia team in the final of the Exeter City Supporters' Trust-backed annual diversity football tournament held on Sunday 9 June at the University of Exeter.

The Saudis battled back to level three times in a 4-4 draw with local Exeter side Cronies. But it was the Cronies, led by Player Manager and Exeter City fan Matt Webb, who edged the penalty shoot out 3-2. The Saudis had the consolation of winning the Fran Jenkin Fair Play Award.

Exeter City celebrate diversity with international football tournament

Following the huge success of last weekend’s Respect Festival in Exeter, which was attended by 22,500 people, Exeter City is backing the annual One Game One Community tournament, which celebrates diversity in the local community, on Sunday 9 June 2013.

The competition, now in its ninth year, encourages participation from local black and minority ethnic teams and attracts players from many different parts of the world. Past winners include sides representing Poland, Slovakia, Afghanistan and Lithuania.

Hundreds of kids enjoy football in the sun

165 teams, over 1300 kids and two glorious days of sunshine descended on Feniton this weekend, for Exeter City’s 11th annual 6-a-side youth tournament.

The event, jointly hosted by the Exeter City’s Academy and their Football in the Community Charitable Trust, saw hundreds of youngsters enjoying a festival of football over two sun-kissed days at Feniton Football Club. The three pitches were quartered up into 6-a-side playing fields, as the youngsters from age groups ranging from under-7 to under-15 took part in Devon’s showpiece youth tournament of the summer.

Places are filling up fast for Exeter City’s Football in the Community children’s football roadshows during the May half term.

There will be three different events in Exeter, plus courses in Dawlish, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Crediton, Tiverton, Seaton, Feniton, Okehampton, North Tawton and Barnstaple.

Contract statuses of Exeter City players announced

Exeter City have submitted their retained list to the Football League, regarding players whose contracts are scheduled to expired this summer.

Tommy Doherty, Steve Tully, John O’Flynn, Tom Nichols and Myles Anderson have all been offered contracts to remain with the Grecians during the 2013/14 season. New education programme gets a Kick Start from Exeter City

Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community Charitable Trust is to pilot a new three-year learning engagement project, Kick Start, in conjunction with ATASS Respect, to work with children attending schools in the Exeter area.

The programme aims to support 30 children each year who may be at risk of disengaging from education for various reasons. Those who will be invited on to the programme will have shown a capacity to respond to alternative methods of learning, but could be vulnerable to low levels of academic achievement.
