A new Junior Futsal course is being launched in Exeter, giving young footballers in the city a chance to hone their football skills in the fast-paced indoor game. Exeter City Football Club is running the new course for children aged 7 – 14 over four weekly sessions in November and December, beginning on Friday 11th January.

Futsal is a small-sided, indoor game which is growing in popularity both as an excellent way of improving football skills and as a fun, exciting game in its own right.

Ian Sharps’ first-half header was enough to give Rotherham a win against Exeter at St James’ Park. The defender met Ben Pringle’s corner at the end of the first half to score what proved the game’s only goal. Substitute Mitchell Rose was dismissed for the visitors shortly before full-time but it made little difference as the Millers held out to win.

The Grecians made a single enforced change to the starting line-up following their win on the road at Gillingham, as Craig Woodman was replaced by Jordan Moore-Taylor in the left-back position.

After bringing back six points from two tough away games at Bradford and Gillingham, Exeter manager Paul Tisdale is looking forward to the visit of Rotherham this afternoon.

A thumping 5-0 loss away at Dagenham for Rotherham was followed up by a 4-2 win against Cheltenham last weekend – but that was shortly followed by a home loss to basement club Wycombe, summing up the Millers’ unpredictability this season.

The Millers have a game in hand over most clubs in League Two, but their inconsistent form has seen them slip into mid-table despite being many people’s tip for...

Grecians boss Paul Tisdale was understandably delighted with an away win at npower League Two leaders Gillingham.

In a see-saw fixture, City had to battle back from conceding an early goal to eventually triumph against a Martin Allen side that has been lauded for its resilience this year. And the Exeter manager was pleased with all aspects of the performance, including his players’ liveliness with the ball and their resistance without it.

Tis said: “To go a goal down in the first five minutes and come back as we did – we were really tough, creative and ballsy. A fantastic...

A third goal in as many games for Jamie Cureton gave the Grecians a win on the road against Bradford City.

Exeter took the lead at the end of the first half through Cureton, and a solid display under increasing pressure in the second half sent the travelling fans back home happy.

Grecians boss Paul Tisdale named a third consecutive unchanged starting line-up, with the only change to the bench being the return of Guillem Bauza in place of Tom Nichols.

Bradford meanwhile had to make a number of changes owing to injuries, including a debut for right-back Tom Naylor...

Teenagers urged to exercise to ward off bone disease

Playing football or running for at least three hours a week could help teenagers counteract the potential damage to their bone health caused by prolonged spells of sitting.

An international team, including an expert from the University of Exeter, has found evidence that adolescents who spend long periods engaged in certain sedentary activities are more likely to have low bone mineral content in parts of the body where it can be an indicator of the risk of developing osteoporosis.

In the research, which has just been published by BMC Public Health, the team...

A season’s best for Exeter City Football Club

Exeter City Football Club set a new record for the season against Fleetwood on Saturday – by raising a total of £969.77 for the Poppy Appeal during the half-time bucket collection.

The previous highest total for the current campaign was £926.43, which had been raised for the Adam Stansfield Foundation during the Grecians’ Capital One Cup tie against Championship side Crystal Palace.

St James’ Park hosted a Remembrance silence – which was observed immaculately both the home and away supporters – and an on-field ceremony by the Royal British Legion. The...

25 football fans arrested ahead of Champions League match

Amsterdam police yesterday arrested 25 football fans in central Amsterdam ahead of the crucial Champions League match between Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester City, a police spokeswoman said.

The game, which Ajax won 3-1, was a crucial game after both sides have had a poor start to their campaigns.

The arrests took place in the early evening in the city's red light district.

"Most of them were arrested for public violence," said Marjolein Koek, spokeswoman for the police. (NewsPoint)

Former England goalkeeper David James, who has been training with Exeter City, says the row over racism in football has not been helped by the FA's slowness to respond to the John Terry case.

The debate was intensified over the weekend when Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was among a number of players who did not wear a campaign T-shirt in the warm-up against Stoke.

However, Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle has defended the protest against the Kick It Out anti-racism campaign.

So what do I write about for my difficult first blog?

So, my first ever blog. After much procrastination, excuse making and general displacement activity I’ve actually sat down and written something! If I’m honest, it’s all a bit scary. I’ve got no ‘blogging’ experience and yet I find myself sat in front of the computer typing as if I know what I’m doing.

So what’s needed in a first blog? I guess that you need to know something about me? The first hurdle – fundamentally I have no idea how to describe myself. In a desperate attempt to answer this (and in true lonely hearts fashion) I turned to my friends and asked them for three words...
