Six on-call firefighters from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service made history this week (12 April) when they completed the End Point Assessment of the operational firefighter apprenticeship. This is a national first – it is usually only wholetime firefighters who take this apprenticeship.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is breaking boundaries in offering the same training and development opportunities for both on-call and wholetime firefighters.

The Exeter and District Ramblers have produced a collection of hand-picked trails to encourage Exeter residents to get outside and discover a new side to their city.

A funeral director has created waterproof syringe holders for a specialised school in Exeter to give greater freedom to children with physical difficulties.

Funeral Director Caz Denning used her sewing skills honed at J H Way Funeral Services in Teignmouth to make hassle-free syringe rolls for her grandson, Joshua, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, and was asked by his old school Vranch House to make 22 for their pupils.

Accolades in abundance after death of former long serving Exmouth RNLI Coxswain Mechanic

Exmouth RNLI crew and volunteers were saddened this week to learn of the death of former Lifeboat Coxswain Mechanic, Tim Mock on 10th April 2021, after a short illness.

Tim served for 34 years, joining as a crew volunteer in April 1980 aged 21 before becoming Boats Mechanic just three years later in 1983, a post he excelled at for 30 years.
