The Heart of the South West Better Business for All partnership (Hot SW BBFA) has won the Better Business for All award at the Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) Regulatory Excellence Awards ceremony.

The national award celebrates outstanding regulatory practice that achieves positive outcomes in supporting businesses and protecting consumers. The event attracted entries from dozens of local authorities from around the UK.

The OPSS said the partnership ‘delivered outstanding regulatory support at a local level’.

Exeter school takes part in NSPCC Number Day

Maynard School in Exeter, threw themselves into all things maths last month as part of a special UK wide fundraising day in aid of the NSPCC.

Since it launched 21 years ago, more than 3,500 schools have taken part in fun activities for the NSPCC’s maths-inspired ‘Number Day’ and raised nearly £2 million in the process for the charity.

Quick-thinking groom helps to deliver donkey’s foal

A quick-thinking groom helped a donkey deliver her foal safely, after one of its front legs became stuck during birth, at international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary.

The mare, called Abbie, went into labour on Tuesday evening (8 June), and when groom, Lisa Coles went to check on her, she quickly realised that one of the foal’s front legs was stuck. Lisa could see that Abbie was struggling and knew that she had to do something fast to help her.

Lisa gently held the foal and was able to free its leg, helping Abbie to deliver her baby safely.
