Claire Austin, founder and leader of Exmouth Friends in Need Community Support Group has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021 for services to the community during Covid-19.

Claire said: “I am truly humbled by this award. I am also incredibly proud of what we have achieved, both before and during the pandemic. Volunteers are a fundamental part of Exmouth Friends in Need and it’s really their work that this award is for”.

Exeter doctor to launch diabetes education programme in Denmark

A diabetes expert at the University of Exeter has been awarded a fellowship at the Danish Diabetes Academy to develop an education programme to help people with Type 1 diabetes to exercise safely.

The programme will also help to grow important research into Type 1 diabetes and exercise in Denmark.

Professor Rob Andrews is Associate Professor of Diabetes at the University of Exeter and a consultant at the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. He will be based at the Steno Diabetes Center in Copenhagen.

Teaming up to support Twilight with a Twist

A group of around 30 team members from Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary will be taking part in the Hospiscare ‘Twilight with a Twist’ on Saturday July 10.

It’s the 15th anniversary of the charity’s Twilight Walk, and this year people have been invited to take part either by joining the walk in Exmouth or planning a route locally.
